Lots of great green thumbs here

A couple years ago I built a chicken tractor and got a couple chickens. It gets moved around the yard and they scratch around at the ground for bugs and such. It is amazing how they scratch out the weeds, but the grass is okay. In fact, the area of my yard I move the tractor around in has the best looking grass. Here is a pic of my chicken tractor:

Oh Wow ! I didn't know you raised chickens ! As in fresh eggs-all-the-time-chickens ? Do they stay in that nesting area in the winter ? I know your winters are milder....oh so curious. I never would've guessed what I'm staring at would be called a "chicken tractor" LOL

    BC Gal,

All I can think about is how nice that chicken tractor would be for growing plants...ready to use lattice and protection from varmints!

You read my mind... slap some plastic over it , cover the ground and you've got a lil' greenhouse as well

Thanks. Yep I get fresh eggs . Unfortunately they don't lay during the winter even here. I never knew about chicken tractors at first and was just searching the internet for good coop designs. But it's like a hidden society - google chicken tractor and there are thousands!

Lol gals, the chicken tractor is a bit small for a greenhouse. In the background of the pic you make out a bit of my greenhouse. Actually it is a high tunnel - could be a greenhouse but with all the moisture here, the air flow along the bottom is important.

Wish my corn looked like that this year I heard some farmers' wives talking and corn season is going to be bad for everyone around here this year.

Off to the nursery to get some flowers for the new wall baskets I picked up on clearance at WM for $5. Will post picks when I'm done. Going to take out my tomatoes, the san marzano ones are all rotten nd some have already fallen off. It's only one pot really.

    Patty,
Do you have any place in your yard where you can plunk the tomato plant? It isn't diseased, it might grow out of the BER conditions.

Good luck on your plants search! I found some clearance annuals at Rona which were still in good shape...that's the problem with late season plants...they are often very neglected by then!

The tall yellow flower that you have looks like canola that might have spread form a farmers field

I will have to post some pictures of my flowers, once I figure out how too, My yard is a wild array of colors right now, and most of my perrenials haven't even started blooming yet but they are getting close. But I am super excited that I have cactus's that are blooming :D

I noticed that too...I think even their tomatoes were full price! Rona had their small packs of tomatoes for 25 cents and a lot of the annuals were really cheap. Not too many places with reduced perennials yet, unless you count the grocery stores with the garden centers. I haven't bought any plants from HD this year; their prices and selection weren't the best. You used to be able to get a 4-6 pack of annuals for less than a buck. Now, they sell one plant in a larger pot and charge you four times the price.
