We had a northern waterthrush visiting for a few hours. It is actually a warbler but likes to feed on the ground and bobs his tail as he walks. The robins and cedar waxwings are having a feast of our chokecherries. We also spotted a harrier hawk hovering over the field.Great birding lately!

Wheres our bird lovers? lol I have my Winter bird feeder out on the porch along side a can of bacon fat (fill can with bacon drippings, rest of egg and toast crumbs, peanut butter store in freezer untill full, then open other end of can put a coat hanger wire or string threw and hang up for birds ex: woodpeckers love this. Cannot afford bird seed ? I use bread from the food bank and at the moment its that stale box of crackers that no one ate,the birds don't mind mostly Blue Jays at my feeder I saw a Grackle thow think he's in the wrong place poor bird.

Here I am! Our birdfeeders are full of seed and the usual suspects are turning out. Bluejays and nuthatches , chickadees and starlings and sparrows. At the suet we have downy and hairy woodpeckers visiting. I love winter birds.

At the beginning of winter, we watched a hawk swoop down and snatch up one of our bluejays.

Every winter like clock work we have bluejaws, chickadees [so adorable =)], woodpeckers and dove's at our feeders.. But this year we have some newbies! cardigans, a male and female.. I never knew the females are a tan colour and the males are red.. I follow my cats lead when they show up outside.. I sit by the sliding door and just watch.. granted I don't throw myself at the glass every 5 minutes

    Ack! How sad!

How long does it take for the birds to notice that a feeder has been put up?

Evil.Kitten That would be a Cardinal and lucky for you that you have a pair of these pretty birds at your feeder to watch with your cats. My cat likes watching them also so funny she is thinking dinner time like that hawk.
!!! replace chickens for cats except one in oven !!!

We have all the usual suspects at the feeders. Hairy and downy woodpeckers, nuthatches and chikadees at the suet. we have jays, cardinals, junkos, sparrows, starlings and pidgeons at the feeding station. I love to see them all and it feels good to help out my little feathered friends thru a harsh Canadian winter.I am also happy that my corn cob filled bird-proof squirrell feeder works cause i love those cute little critters and their antics.
