It is Shoppers that comes up these promotions NOT their customers. People will be people. This promotion makes money for people who take advantage of it. To say that a customer is abusing "the system" is not really fair as much as you may want to call these people hoarders and abusers, they are simply savy shoppers, something that we all aspire to be. IE we are all trying to save a few bucks on this forum and so putting those people down who are good at it well........ that just doesn't ring true to me...
Shoppers Drug Mart made a huge error by not limiting the quantities and now they are paying for it in many different ways. Shoppers who missed out are mad, Shoppers Drug Mart knows people hoarded and they are mad. As far as I am concerned Shoppers Drug Mart hired a very poor promotion person and that person needs to rethink how they do business.

I don't think Shoppers made any mistakes! I think it's their 50 anniversary celebration with some great deals especially for people who really know how to participate in them, and we should celebrate them and their Optimum program! Thanks Shoppers, and Kraft!

IF Shoppers had an issue with this promotion...WHY are they essentially doing it AGAIN this weekend by putting bars on sale for $1.99??
Purchase 88 Choc Bars @ $2 each = $176.00
Redeem 95,000BP $170.00
Balance owing $6.00
Tax $22.88
Total Out of pocket 28.88
Choc bars 88/4=22 qualifying purchases ( buy 4 bars receive 8000BP)
Earn 172,000BP
Do it again
172,000
-95,000
=77,000 points left
+172,000
=249,000 points earned/remaining from 2 redemptions
STRICTLY FOLLOWING RULES:
One could feasibly do this Friday, Sat and Sun and earn about 750,000BP (some stores start flyer specials Friday)
750,000 points is $1,190.00 STORE CREDIT
for $173.00 out of pocket

I believe there is a limit of 4 for the 2/$3 so I didn't bother to factor that as it just messes with simple math.
The difficulty this week. (as I see it)
#1 Stores/cashiers/managers CAN limit purchases as policy does not allow for "commercial shopping for resale" it's a moot point to argue as they COULD just say "No" at the retail store. They ARE making money so no worries for them really...but some people choose to be difficult.
A. Find a store on Friday doing the weekend sale.
Difficult but not impossible and not "technically necessary" I know a few...
B. Find a store with enough choc bars
Not hard...but other people will be hunting this "opportunity" HARDCORE. I cannot STAND and WILL NOT participate in consumer feeding frenzies like "Black Friday" You WILL see the worst of people.
C. Have a few hundred $$$...you can do SMALLER transactions but that breaks "rules" although I doubt many people care...I expect this will be abused and SDM will re-evaluate their promotions BUT considering their formal reply about the previous weekend they seem happy for this to proceed.
CADBURY pays SDM $$$ for the points awarded. Cadbury is def making $$$ too as a 100gm choc bar costs about 25 cents to produce....it's mostly sugar
