Not sure if this is a "health" issue but I'm looking for a formaldehyde free shampoo & conditioner, do they even exist? I for obvious reasons don't want to be applying a carcinogen to my head (and neither should you!) lol Now your bottle won't actually list the word formaldehyde but it will be listed as one of the following names:
- Quaternium - 15
- 2 bromo 2 nitropropane 1 3 -diol
- imidazolidinyl urea
- diazolidinyl-urea
- formalin
- methanal
- methyl aldehdye
- methylene oxide
- morbicid acid
- oxymethylene
- methylene glycol
My favorite shampoo contains Quaternium - 15. Grrrr! I've searched online and come up empty handed. This thread is currently associated with: N/A

Maybe just try the pure soap route, or baking soda/vinegar

Interesting. Thanks for the post tara!
I did not know that formaldehyde was used in shampoo. Isn't that the same stuff that is used to embalm dead bodies so as to preserve them? And isn't it also the same stuff used to insulate houses?
Ugh. We wonder why the 20th century is plagued with cancers and Alzheimer's and everything else. I mean--I'm sure there's a zillion things that also contribute and shampoo/conditioner is just another one on the list...but that is the reason I stopped coloring my hair. I couldn't justify dumping those toxic chemicals on my head like that. like--if you're not supposed to dye your hair during pregnancy then it's got to make you wonder why you would dye your hair at all, eh?
But I'm pathetic. I don't think I could go shampoo free like some of those blog writers that natalka listed. I would try the formula in that first one though. Wonder where one buys castile soap?"Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken." Oscar Widle

Thank you for the links Natalka, I will take a look at the all! I was talking to some friends and they gave me some links, sure that because they were organic that they would be formaldehyde free. They weren't. I know to some people it seems ridiculous but to me it's important, especially since I've been reading about formaldehyde and have come to see it's in everything from paper, to clothes we wear to detergent we wash our clothes in, to cosmetics, shampoo, etc. *sighs* small tiny doses all add up.
ninna, it is the exact same thing that is use to embalm people. Interesting quick fact: bodies use to decompose in 4 days and now it's taking up to 7 days since we are consuming so much formaldehyde throughout life. Oh and they are using 20% less embalming fluid when you die. If that isn't telling I don't know what is!

Drugstores, health food stores would have castile soap - still you have to be careful with some companies using that name -

I've really liked the Crunchy Betty site: http://www.crunchybetty.com/
I wouldn't let others sway you when it comes to your health, I'd prefer not to gamble with such things, I'm in Korea now and have no idea what's in the things I have here

We love Desert Essence shampoo around here... I believe it is formaldehyde free, but of course you'll want to double check...
Also Paige Padgett has a lot of great green beauty information on her website: http://paigepadgett.com
