I've got DH lined up to pick up 2 dressers that I found on kijiji for under $10 each. I'm going to refinish them and try and sell them. I've done 2 for our house and they turned out really well so I'm hoping I can make a little bit of cash on the side. fingers crossed!

I hate working 6 - 7 days a week and I am not sure why I am always accepting to work the weekends
I am always spending my extra money un-wisely ... by eating out often or treating friends when eating out, buying things i don't need like one of my habits is upgrading my cellphone yearly or thinking of upgrading my car soon lol

We all may be finding ourselves in withdrawal from Olympic fever!
The best thing is that the U.S.A. gets to keep Justin Bieber!
I enjoyed the games immensely & I actually learned so much,
& was glad to see the games weren't too clouded by all that political stuff,
Hockey, curling & pairs skating are a few of my faves,
& freestyle skiing is truly worthy of reviews that give raves,
Speedskating takes endurance & such incredible precision,
& I always worry that those bobsleigh-ers are going to have a collision,
Thank you Sochi for impressing us, as the venues were simply outstanding,
It's not going to be easy for us to come in for a landing!

Hi Ladies.. I don't usually come over to the tea room or the general threads, but feeling a little "off" today. I had some surprising news today, apparently, I have a brother!
My Mom has kept this secret for 52 years and was just contacted this past week from her son, which in itself, I think is great. I can't understand why she would have kept this secret, she said partially from embarassment, and partly because my grandmother had made it a pretty traumatic experience for her, hid her away in the house, and forbid her to ever speak of it again after the baby was born and taken for adoption. (she had just turned 16 at the time, in 1961, but still?? I'm actually quite shocked at this because I always thought my Grandma was the sweetest, most easy going person I knew other than my Mom, but I guess that wasn't always the case)
Anyways.. i'm feeling a little off because both of my older sisters found out yesterday, and immediately had "friended" my new brother's wife on FB, have called him on the phone, and have now set up a meeting for next weekend.
Am I a horrible person for being a little bit weirded out by this? I don't know that i'm ready to get on the phone to call a complete stranger yet? I have no idea what I'd even say to him.. i've only know about this for less than 3 hours! I'm sure I'll meet him soon, but in the meantime i'm feeling a little bit like the bad sister, especially since my two sisters immediately jumped in and made contact..
Sorry if this is the wrong place to post.. but I somehow feel more inclined to talk to my SC friends, than my family about this..
Any advice?

Wow that's rough. I'd certainly have a hard time adjusting.
I know my Dad went through a similar experience. He found out at 40 that he had a half sister living a few hours away.
Apparently my grandmother got pregnant around 16 and was shipped off to Ontario (from Cape Breton) so that no one would find out. She put the baby up for adoption and never spoke of it to anyone.
My dad only found out when his half sister started searching and found my grandmother (my dad happened to be there when she came to introduce herself).
Like I said I couldn't imagine. On one hand I think I'd feel cheated (like I wish I got to grow up with them) but on the other I'd be leery (they are a stranger).
Tough situation!
I know my dad did develop a relationship with his sister - it wasn't super close but they did talk, which was nice. He said he felt like he owed her some kind of family connection.
I wouldn't worry to much about not jumping to make immediate contact. It may even be overwhelming from their standpoint. lol. I'd do what you feel comfortable with, just introduce yourself and let it evolve naturally.
Good luck with whatever happens. Sending you big hugs in this stressful time.

Wow, Nicki, that's certainly a jolt of news! Whatever you decide, you do it in your own time. I do know what it's like to have sisters - I have three older than me - and we act/react differently in situations.
You allow/establish contact when you are ready - by whatever method you feel most comfortable.
Don't judge your grandmother or your mom... it really, truly was a different time. (I was born in 1961, the fifth kid of six, so I can relate)

good morning all
Morning Nicki,
Not a lady...nor do I have experience that would lend any merit to any advice I could give you.
With that said, we know that at the end of the day, you'll do what feels right to you.DANGER
