So things are financially tight around my house these days. We used to get take out or pick up 1 time a week and now nothing, zip, nada and I'm not getting used to it (lol) and I don't like it (haha), I'm worse than a kid.
So I decided to see if anyone else is trying to save $ by not buying taking or picking up food (cooked chicken from deli, etc).
Anyone else on board? This thread is currently associated with: N/ALast edited by jasperandchar; Mon, Dec 31st, 2012 at 02:28 PM.

I am not big on take out food. I would rather cook especially since I get more value for my money and it tastes so much better.
I am really not sure how people can really eat something like a Big Mac and enjoy it.
To each their own though but I sure would not miss take out like you are.

I don't like take-out or fast food either. On the rare occasion, I might have a Subway or Timmies sandwich but, we haven't done restaurants in many, many years. Home-cooked food just tastes better, is healthier, and is much less expensive.

You could always try a dinner swap, its almost like take-out I guess. For us, when I cook something I make a bit more, and take a dish to my mom's place or my friends house, and have a quick visit. They can either freeze it or eat later.
I know in a week or so, I will get something from them, I just have to add a veggie or salad to it, and dinner is ready. Cant wait for the turkey stew to get here! what a fabulous idea, my family lives too far away, darn. And to be honest the people in my little hamlet are not very kind to outsiders (we've lived here since 1995 and we're still considered outsiders), so no friendly neighbours, etc.
I absolutely love the idea though, maybe at the cottage where everyone is kind & generous!

I seldom get to eat takeout or fast food but when it's something I like I really enjoy it! Going to Chuck E Cheese for DS's 2nd birthday--have to admit their pizza rocks!

We tend to do it maybe twice a month.
I'm at home, so have the time to cook, and the men do love what meals I make them!
However, we have a few favourite places we like to get food from (restaurant take out), and once every few months get an urge for fast food (though not lately with the beef problems...)

I have two growing boys and find that it is just not worth it to eat out. My younger son has almost grown out of the kids menu at most places. We all like the Keg and so far both kids are still on the childrens menu so in the long run it is still less expensive for us if we go there. Last year I bought Keg gift cards during the Shoppers bonus point promo and the few times we go out for a celebration we go there.
Friends don't let real friends pay full price.

I have to say this. In my experience when you get stuck in a fast food "rut" it is hard to get out. Once you get out and the longer you are out for the easier it is to stay away.
For example: In August I got Mc Donalds ... then in September (a few weeks afteR) I got Mc Donalds (It was all I could think about!) then a few weeks after that I went to lunch with a friend at Subway.
I've been clean for about 3 weeks now I would think and I'm going to try and keep it that way. Money is extreamly tight right now but if it wasn't that wouldn't be the motivating factor for me. My motivation is the weight gain that comes from those places once I get stuck in a rut.
Now that being said I have been craving me some sesame chicken from the chinese joint around the corner from here. You get a platter of it and some broccoli in there for $10. DH usually gets his own of Orange chicken. Both dishes cost us $20.
I've been having to tell myself each time I think about it, $20 is a lot of money, Rosie (our cat) just got her hair cut for $20. Should she have gotten her hair cut or should your unhealthy state have been given expensive unhealthy chinese food?
Somehow no matter what size, shape, species your kids come in they always come first
