My thumb nail has broken below the pink. It's really painful, but I'm not quite sure what to do. This has happened once before and I started to clip it, but the end kept getting caught on things and eventually the nail broke off below the pink all the way across the nail (horizontally).

I've read about gel overlay, but I'm not sure if this would be helpful or not. It's supposed to add a hardener to the nail so that it prevents breakage. I'm curious if this will be helpful or not.

If the the top and bottom parts are still attached, this is what I do...

Grab a piece of facial tissue or tissue paper. put it into little bits.
Take some clear nail polish or super glue/nail glue and put a little on the nail where it tore and cover it up with tissue.
Let dry. Layer until it's pretty darn sturdy and then file so it's not so bumpy.

This usually works until it grows out.

I usually just wrap a bandaid around where it is broken to keep the nail still attached.

I also agree with the bandaid, even put ice on it if its hurting. Go invest in some Sally Hansen nail hardner. I suggest the triple strong, nail fortifier. I have super thin nails and with this stuff I can open pop cans and everything with my nails. And I only apply about once a week.

glue for fake nails....this is what i take....when it's hard dry, i use a nail buffer to even it....you might need to glue it again untill it reach a confortable size

try using a soft nail buffer, to gently remove the piece thats getting caught. Or if thats too painful, a band-aid would be the way to go.

    Bandaid until it grows out
Breaking nails like that is the worst, and so painful.

Exactly what I do, except I clip apart a tea-bag and use a bit of it to fit over the break, only one layer, then nail-glue, dry, more glue, dry, then buff. It's never failed to do the trick and stays until it grows out.

I started taking calcium and vitamin D about 6 months ago and have noticed that my nails are stronger.

i used the tissue paper method last night. i had never done this before, and am impressed!

i didn't have glue, just used clear polish, but it feels sturdy with 2 layers of tissue.
