This is too funny....my freezer was nicely slowly emptying out and then my sister comes with bags of frozen food that she prepared for herself but can not eat now because of a recent dietary...gluten free....change. Sure nice, though, to have some prepared meals

Yesterday I took out a couple of containers of prepared macaroni that my sister gave me and doctored it up a bit - made a sauce using butter/flour/better than bouillon soup stock/white cheddar cheese and added it in, then topped with cracker crumbs and baked it in the oven for 30 min.....yum.
Today this is what came out of the freezer - a small package of chopped green peppers, bacon, left over ham bits (to make a potato casserole) and chopped apples (for apple crisp).

i was planning on emptying the freezer this summer, but when work got REALLY slow and when are kids were placed in our home (adoption) the "MOM and DAD" grocery made weekly delivers with chickens, meat, waffles. milk, etc! I was finally able to remove some food to plan make ahead meals when the "Mom and Dad" decided to replenish the freezer! I really need to defrost and clean it, We are so grateful for their kindness and generosity. During the summer, it allowed us to bond
with the kids and not worry about feeding them! Whenever the kids see them, they ask, "What did they bring this time"

What a shame to have to throw out food. I now have a detailed list of what is in each of our freezers and where it is situated in the freezer - it really helps a ton to keep track and food waste is almost nonexistent then. A lot of foods are good beyond what I have read. We are still eating red beets that were frozen in 2010 and they are perfectly fine and tasty.

They wereArctic garden veggies- so freezer burned...plus no one eats them- some baking-looked gross. I personally hate the freezer. From now on I will freezer some chicken and fruit, a little bit of bread and only 2 bags of frozen veggies. Everything else just gets thrown out

Today here is what came out of the freezer - grated zucchini (to make chocolate chip zucchini muffins - I just thaw and add...also the liquid...and it makes great muffins!), grated raw cucumber (which I will thaw and add salt/pepper/vinegar/a tad of sugar) for dinner tonight, red beets, ground beef (making a meatloaf), and the regular concentrated juice (we go through loads of this here).
As for the grated raw cucumber - we had an abundance of cukes growing in our garden and, after making loads of bread and butter pickles, and giving a lot away, we still had extras. So I just peeled, took out most of the seeds, grated, and put into small sandwich zipper bags. When we use one of these, I thaw and pour out most of the liquid - then add some vinegar (according to taste), salt, pepper and a teaspoon of sugar. Our family loves this.....

I hate throwing anything away also! That being said I am a bit of a freshness freak so i really need to stay on top of what I have. I hear rule of thumb for fridge mount freezer is 3 months and deep freezer 1 year...I have had three bags of arctic garden veggies in my top mount for over a year! (just delaying the inevitable...they are going to join your green peppers very shortly!)
Guilty!
Cheers,
Snip

Out of the freezer today....sole & imitation crab (going to make a sauce over this and bake in the oven) and green beans. Some mashed potatoes and gravy should complete this for dinner

I have chicken thighs thawing in the fridge. I have plans of cooking these up in a new sauce tomorrow. My little boy had his 4 month immunizations this afternoon so he is fussy and I still don't know what I will be making for tonight's supper. Possibly fish and chips.

Today 2 pkgs of chicken breast = 5 chicken breast and 1 package of stew moose meat for soup.
In combination with this challenge and Frugal February I am slowly starting to make head way.
The stand up is 1/2 empty and the chest freezer is 3/4 full - can't wait to be down to 1 freezer and do a big clean-up.
Love this thread op.2019 is the year that we continue to save before we buy!!!

Wish I could do this, we are trying to use up stuff our of our freezer but I keep finding deals that I just cannot say no. The small bags of Arctic Garden veggies were on for $0.88 this week at No Frills, these will make wonderful stir fries so I got 5 bags, plus we were out of chicken and who could pass up $2.77/lb for boneless skinless chicken breast.
Maybe if we get snowed in I will try to sort my freezer.

About time that I contribute to this thread again....today I took out some beef which I'll be cubing up for a stir fry (with onions, cabbage, carrots and left over rice...topped with peanuts!). Also found a package of sliced frozen apple slices that I'll make into an apple crisp.
