I bought a 2lb bag of onions because it was cheaper than buying one onion. I used one onion out of the bag for my chili and now have 6 left and not a clue what to do to use them up before they go bad.
I was thinking onion rings, but I'm not sure I will be able to find a way to bake them since I don't do fried? This thread is currently associated with: N/A

I put lots of onions into my curry chickpeas dish . It's very easy to make, if you like Indian cuisine. The freezer idea sound good, although I've never actually done that.

I didn't know it was okay to freeze onions! I thought they would go runny or something but I guess even if they did it wouldn't matter as I usually only use them in stir fry and chili type dishes and once in awhile in omelets.
Mine never seem to last that long I'm trying to think of stuff to do maybe next weekend since I don't have time to do anything with them this weekend or during the week. I just hate wasting food and know that I don't use onions that often...I found a baked onion ring recipe that I may attempt a small batch of tonight to see how it goes.
Do you have a recipe?? I've never made it before, but I could definitely try it out since I have a crockpot and need to make some stuff next weekend for school nights again.

Caramelized onions. I do them in the oven, usually with mushrooms. Slice several in thin slices, add a bit of olive oil, sprinkle a bit of salt. Bake them around 300, stir them around once in awhile until they're soft and sweet. I do a few at once and have them in the fridge, add them to my eggs, sandwiches, etc. I think you can freeze these too.

Thanks! I was thinking of freezing at least half of them cut up and then making a stir fry for fajitas I attempted the baked onion rings tonight and they were a fail. They smelled amazing, were nice and crispy, but just didn't taste too great. I now have 5.5 onions left :p

Don't store them in the fridge, they will last longer if left just out in the open, don't keep them in a plastic bag. Also, don't store them with potatoes, they will go bad faster.
I've never frozen them raw, but I have after they've been sauteed a bit.

One thing I have found is that you can never "over onion" foods if you cook them a bit ahead of time until opaque.
I usually use 6 or 7 onions when I make a spaghetti sauce. I cut them in chunks so I have nice big pieces.
Fry them in the fat from the ground eef to give them a little extra flavour and then dump them into the sauce.I can't profess to understand God's plan. Christ promised the resurrection of the dead. I just thought he had something a little different in mind.

french onion soup.. i have a cheat recipie...
slice your onions, sautee them in a tbsp of italian salad dressing..cook until tender. add 1 can of beef consome/broth and bring to a boil. reduce and simmer for 10 mins. laddle into oven proof bowls and top with crutons and swiss cheese (or whatever kind). broil in the oven for 5 mins or so. it's really good. i think it came from a kraft recipe book.
When life hands you lemons, make a lemon pie... lemonade will be all like WTH?!?

I always cook with onions. My husband is pretty much surprised when I cook a meal and do not include onion in it. I just grew up that way.
