With his stroke he is no longer himself, he has changed and I cannot physically nor emotionally help him.
My dear wife understands and tomorrow we will contact the group overseeing care to inform them.
Please pray for all.Always remember the What are you thankful for today? thread as there always is something to be thankful for.

oh Skippy. im so very sorry.. i know how hard it is. you literally have to take one day at a time.. lots of deep breathes. each moment you have now will last for a lifetime. i know its not easy for you or your family. the 3 months before by FIL passed it was the hardest of my life. im so glad though for the moments we had. we faced it with honesty and the compassion he deserved.
i pray for peace and comfort for all of you.Be Strong
Be True
Be You.
Simple as that!

Skippy, I've been praying, I wish you and your family all peace. Knowing that he is with the lord when his time comes is comforting. Keep him pain free, and make the decision that feels right for the family. He will understand.

My father passed of cancer, and he wanted to stay home also, but if got so difficult for everyone, that we had no choice but to put him into hospice at the hospital. The nurses said they could tell us when his time was near to ensure that we would be there at his time of passing even if it were at night. They were correct too. We went in one morning and they told us to stay there all day and into the night if possible. It seems that (at least with cancer) that he had a very restless night, even trying to get out of bed. The nurse told us that this is typical prior to passing. So, with us all their (including his cat) he passed that evening and he was so very peaceful. We felt much better knowing that he had the very best care possible, and knowing that there was no way we could have had him at home, as much as he wanted to be there.

On Thursday morning my wife's Dad woke up and thought it was night because everything was dark. This was the last straw for me and I called an ambulance. I could no longer deal with the situation.
His sight was fine at the hospital, and they gave him medication which tremendously helped his breathing. DW said he looked much better than he had been for quite awhile. While all of this sounds good, I broke DW's promise that he could die at home. This has affected her greatly and in turn myself. I'm in the position of having to seek treatment for myself.
Please pray for myself and my family.
Thank you all again so much for all that you have done.Always remember the What are you thankful for today? thread as there always is something to be thankful for.

Oh Skippy. I'm so sorry to hear the news. I agree with the others; it's so mentally draining and physically exhausting for you and DW. With the added guilt of breaking her promise, that sounds terrible. But, you did what you thought would help him best and he does seem better. I think that's the most you can do for anyone.
You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
