Gwen thanks for posting this! I'm 40 with no kids, but do want them. I had a miscarriage 6yrs ago when I was still married, and didn't know if I would ever have kids. I've been with my BF now for almost 3yrs.. ready to move forward, but because he is Christian, he would want to be married first. I'm thinking it would be atleast a year before all that happens and I could try for a baby, which just seems so old. Plus, I'm RH negative, and with the miscarriage, they weren't entirely sure they caught me in time to avoid having that antibody thing. So, I pretty much have given up hope of my own kids.. until now.. I like that you said you never know.. right?
OM Goodness Jenny, I can't even imagine. I know being forced to sit in a waiting room for 7hrs while I was having a miscarriage because the bleeding "wasn't severe enough" really plays havoc with your mind. I honestly don't know how you kept sane through all this, but so glad you were able to add to your family. And your daughter is beautiful!

I'd honestly say, go get tested, it's really simple blood work to at least give you an idea, and depending on the results there are things you can do to improve your odds. Never give up hope! So many of the single mom blogs I follow had their first at 40 or older, and some are having a second now. That goes for anyone
do your research. And there is a book, Taking Charge of Your Fertility, it has so much information in it.
I had a miscarriage at 32, I was basically sent home to let it happen naturally, and it was my birthday. Two years later I got my boy
I never thought I could do it on my own but I knew I had to try.

due to health reason I am never going to be able to have my own kids but that is ok as there is a big gap between my siblings (we are all adopted, they are biological siblings) and I helped raise them so yeah I am good without having my own kids

wow you guys have such touching stories my heart goes out to all of you <3

Oh my that is horrible Jenny.
Not to distract from your story but this is where I have an issue with our health system. I met my guy online an shortly after we started talking (a week to 2) he was in a serious car accident and injured his leg, had to have surgery and it was put in a cast. He keep saying something isn't right it feel wet in my cast it doesn't feel right. He had never broken a bone before so never had a cast and the doctors keep saying oh no no this is normal you have just never had a cast before. Finally after multiple doctors visit the doctor "to make him happy" cut into the cast where is was discovered he has a massive infection the whole inside of the cast was was soaked and falling apart from the infection, not to mention the affect on his leg. He had a massive infection which could have lead to him losing his leg thankfully he did not. But he battled that infection for months I believe and all because a doctor would not listen to him.
Sad thing is even now he has problems getting doctors to listen to him, he had cancer before I knew him and they blame everything on that and his weakened immune system. Twice now he has had to have surgery for internal issues they were saying was the flu and blaming his weakened immune system the most recent was just a few weeks ago. He was told he had the flu, not sure how many times he went to the doc and I think even one trip to the ER. Finally he could not take it anymore went to the ER where they discovered a bleeding ulcer and he was taken into surgery. Not sure how long he has had it but for quite some time he has not been eating properly could not keep anything down, they were blaming the previous surgery he had last October but ever since this last surgery 2 weeks ago he cannot eat normally but can eat and nothing has come back up. It is horrible at times our health system, I had suggested the morning before he went to the hospital he consider a private health clinic in Toronto my dad used as he just could not get better and it was always a flu or something. He has been off work on medical leave for well over a year now and all he wants is life back.Last edited by SassyAshley; Sat, Jul 13th, 2013 at 08:32 PM. Dear gosh do I know about everything being blamed on cancer. This whole last two months has been about me trying to convince the health care system that yes I know that I have terminal cancer but that REALY not the problem right now. Honestly had I not been a crazy phyco b**** at times they would have just stuck me in a palative care room to die ( which they did lol)
Jenny wow Hun holy smokes that is so horrible I'm sorry you had to go through that some nurse dear god their lack of compassion astounds me and doctors wow.
the second time I was in the hospital for cancer 3 years ago I had explority surgery the opened me up and then closed me right back up and told me it was to bad at that point at I probably had 6 months maybe less I was pretty depressed go figure. This nasty nurse kept coming in saying you have to get up and walk around finally I snapped and said no I am going to sit right here watch my DVD and you can get the hell out of my room and go for a walk if you would like. I was kinda left alone after this, lol if she had touched me there would have been some heck to pay. Lol

My mom's mom my nanny passed away from cancer last year and was in palutive. She had diverticulitis in her neck and a doctor in the hospital had just leaned a technique to correcting this and keep trying to use my nanny as a ginnea pig. She was dying from cancer and choose not to fight it and that point her health had deteriorated so much she would not have been able to fight it. But this doctor keep coming in and trying to talk her into the surgery he wanted to practice. It was disgusting especially since the surgery could have killed her because she was so weak and even if it did not kill her she never would have recovered and would have lost the little time she had left to take care of the things she wanted to get done.

I hope everyone had a great day!! We went and picked up our son from his 2 weeks away at Nana's house
He's uber tired and cranky so it was a delightful day but we are happy to have him home and sleeping in his own bed where he belongs. It never feels right when he's not here. The dogs haven't left his side all day!
Tomorrow we are taking him and a friend to a nice picnic park with a little river going through for a picnic. We're going to take the dogs too and make a day out of it!! I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend, it's only 2 more sleeps till prezzies!!!!
