Loocie's Sarcoma Journey Thoughts, Feelings & Snippets.

It is a go with my sarcoma treatment. It begins on Tuesday February 18, 2014. I have met all the criteria to participate in phase two of a clinical trial. The medication is being used to target sarcomas that do not respond toother treatments. It is believed that the drug works by blocking certain enzymes called Aurora A from working. These enzymes are needed for cells to divide - including cancer cells. The actual name of the study drug is not given, but the results from Phase One of the study were promising. It also works by stopping the growth of new blood vessels which would provide the tumour with nutrients for it or them to grow. It is believed that by blocking Aurora A enzymes from working and stopping new blood vessels from growing, the tumours may stop growing or even better, they may shrink.

So my dear friends, I am keeping the faith (along with the occasional outburst of angst) that I will have positive results. Over the course of time, I will share updates & my experiences as I embark on another journey. I would like to expressive my gratitude to all of you fine people for wishing me well with messages of support and encouragement.

So, it seems that I am at *it* once again,
If only it were as simple as a flush down the drain,
I am armed with vigour & I am topped up with vim,
My approach is proper & I'll try to be prim,
You've made me sad & you've made uncertainty loom far too large,
Time to get high & mighty, cause I'm ready to charge!

Cancer moves in quietly & always without permission,
It is the goal of its victims to send it into permanent remission,
It is cursed, it is merciless, it invades so invasive,
It is harsh; it is cruel, so savage & abrasive,
It has no shame, no mercy & it cheats victims of all ages,
So we must pick up the gauntlet as it quietly rages,
It can make one so angry, so feeble & entirely ballistic,
But it can’t steal your hope & your trust to remain optimistic,
We all know the story & the many chapters in the cancer story,
& it has nothing redeeming & if has no glory,
But, it can be fought & discussed, as it needs to be vented,
& the sorrow we feel is justifiably lamented,
Incredible people who are merely living their lives,
Are so caught off guard, as uninvited it arrives,
Goodhearted people, our family, our neighours & beloved friends,
All wishfully longing for cancer to please make amends,
One cannot endure this albatross from way back in the bleachers,
So many variances & types with many different features,
Keeping the hope, the faith & sharing your dossier with others,
Helps keep you sane & hold onto your druthers,
Don’t think about blame, or fuss about fault,
I’d like to triple lock that monster securely in a non opening vault!

Loocie, you are an inspiration to all of us. Your strength and humour is beyond impressive. I'm guessing behind that, you're pretty scared. As you can see from all your supporters, the SC community is rooting for you every step of the way. The treatment you're on sounds amazing. I've actually read several articles about these enzyme blockers and the lab studies were quite successful.
