Another person has tested positive for Ebola, this time a cameraman for NBC. He and the whole team are being brought back by chartered flight to the US where he will receive medical care and they will be quarantined for 21 days.

And they are also testing someone in Toronto for Ebola at the moment as they have also done in Hawaii.

The sad thing is that he had the symptoms and told emerg that he was recently in Liberia but was sent home with some antibiotics and diagnosed as suffering from low grade common viral disease.
Symptoms are so vague for diagnosis unless you have the whole picture or it's too late to treat.

SharonMe, I've been reading a lot of news lately (missed doing that lol) and the comments sections made good points. We're talking about America. We're talking about an uninsured Liberian man (he was coming to America to marry his fiance) so he presented with flu like symptoms the first time. Patch him up and send him home regardless of where he's been, he's not insured. That's a scary thought when potentially dealing with Ebola. Now when he came by Ambulance and was hemorrhaging blood and they made the connection it was probably Ebola they would have had no choice but to quarantine him. But it's not like here where they'd just slap us in a room when we say we just got back from Liberia.

Having said that, I had also read how the family was pretty much under armed guard because they were not complying with the conditions to quarantine themselves for the 21 days, they weren't even suppose to go out on their balconies. Well they ended up sending their children to school on Wed, can you imagine? This is part of the reason they are now under armed guard.

Glad to hear they tested negative Natalka. And I do agree with you lecale about the baby mama thing, and also how did he not know he would have come into contact with it when he was transporting a sick person to hospital? The sad thing is you are going to get people (and can you blame them?) who are going to become infected and chancing it by trying to get through airport security to try and get to any developed country that has better medical care than Africa in hopes they survive a virus that has such a death rate as ebola. I'm not saying it's right (it's down right horrible) but the basic animal instinct to survive is there.

Taking it one step further (conspiracy theorist in me, perhaps) I wondered if we may see terrorism in a new form soon? I just thought it would be easy to drop someone in the middle of say America in the middle of flu season and for a bit it looks like he has the flu like every one else. Until. Who knows. I just know that I was in the ER twice in the last 6 weeks during my cancer treatment (once in St.Catharines and once in Hamilton) just for hiccups in my treatment and both times I was asked by the triage nurses if I had been outside of the country. I joked that I wish I had as I needed a vacation right about now, they both apologized and said they were sorry but they had to ask because if I had been to Africa they had to quarantine me away from the other patients. Now this is going to 2 different ERs presenting with no flu like symptoms at all, I have no doubt in my mind that in Duncan's case, the fact he was uninsured played a large part (if not THE part) in him not being quarantined the first time around. Well public safety should be taking priority over the almighty dollar.

Oh, on my above conspiracy theory. I know these Drs and experts are saying it isn't an airborne thing like the flu and I still keep scratching my head because I'm thinking how are so many people getting infected then? Are all of these people rolling around in blood, feces, sweat, etc? Eg, the NBC camerman that now is infected? Things aren't adding up here, however, lets just humour the experts for a minute. Does this mean that an infected person that is gross (and there are many) goes to the bathroom, does a #1 and a #2 and gets stuff on their hands and doesn't wash them (people do that) ewwww and touches the door on the way out. So you do your business, wash your hands, touch the same spot on the door on your way out not knowing and sneeze, darn it, you cup your nose and sniffle! Not thinking. Stupid! Or worse yet you rub your eye. Whatever it may be, afterall this is how a virus ends up spreading. My point is......is THIS how it's spreading? Because again, if not, either people are rolling around in bodily fluids of the infected or the Drs and experts are really lying to us.
