I went to a couple of stores today to pick up a few things. When I got home I noticed a huge rip on the back of my pants ! It's a diagonal split from mid thigh all the way up to the pocket with part of my underwear showing! I can't believe I walked around for an hour in public like that and didn't notice ! Not one person came up to me and said "hey I think you have a situation going on" or something. I am sure people must have noticed. I wonder if people thought I was making some sort of fashion statement? I'm so embarrassed. I guess I was so into my shopping I didn't notice a breeze or anything ! Has this ever happened to you? Would you tell someone their pants were ripped or just let them walk around like that? I'll get over the embarrassment as there are bigger problems in life, but right now I'm red lol.

Sorry this happened to you.
Just reading the title, first thought was, that's why Mothers told us to have clean underwear.
Yes, I tell people if they have lipstick on their teeth, or if they have something at their nose that needs a tissue. I do it quietly so others don't hear. I know they appreciate it. I would too.

For me it would depend on how you were dressed if I would mention it you or not. If you were dressed trendy, I would assume you meant the rip to be there since having your a$$ hang out is trendy now. If you were my moms age and just wearing clothes and I could tell you weren't trying to be cool I'd probably say something because I'd figure you'd have no idea.

I might have suggested tape for quick fix. But then again, maybe you had a few someones point out the tear-the one someone you want is the one that provides a solution as well as the "did you know that your pants are torn? " comment.
Back to school time-get some 3M Magic transparent tape rolls and carry one in the car/purse for those clothing repair fixes.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

Seriously, I'm really sorry this happened to you. It's weird that someone didn't approach you. I would have, but then again my dh tells me that I never mind my own business, LOLWe all need a little sunshine every now and then

Oopsie! Ya know, no one probably noticed. I don't look at fellow shoppers' legs.
I do tell people if there is something obvious I see wrong. I would want to be told.

I was at a wedding once helping with pictures. The bride's dress caught a heel and tore. While the bridesmaids panicked with trying to sew repairs. I offered a rolled of masking tape.
The father had his dance with his daughter, but was shocked when he saw the video days later of my secret tape job. He had no idea I how much I salvaged the wedding that night until it was over.
Now you can get repairs in a can...

I always stop and tell people. I feel bad not telling them. I once tell a stranger about a "ruler size" sticker on his jean leg, not only it shows what size his jean is but also that he didn't wash his jean before wearing. Double embarassement (sp?) if you ask me.

greeny, I am sorry this happened to you. Like others have said, some may have thought you meant to wear your jeans like that as it is very fashionable to do so right now. This summer, I have noticed more people than ever wearing the denim short shorts (you know, the high-cut ones?) which are very attention-grabbing--so if there were some people wearing those in the store you were in, perhaps people were looking at them.
If it makes you feel better, last year I had my pants rip in a similar manner (jeans by Material Girl--beware) just under my a$$ and a bit of my underwear was visible (boy shorts style). I felt really embarrassed at first but now I think it is no big deal. I think now more people are showing their bodies here, it has become more normalized so people don't notice as much as we may think they do. ANd hey, if people want to show their bodies, more power to them!
But I hope you don't worry about this too much--most, if not all of us have had something embarrassing happen to us so we are all in the same boat

Oh dear, I can have my own show/series on life's most embarrassing moments and as far as has this ever happened to you?? I can definitely top that. If anyone is interested, I will gladly share. Nevertheless, I feel your pain but soon enough, you will be able to laugh at it. Btw, yes, I would tell someone for sure.

With the cameras in stores and on cellphones, sometimes it's nice not to be noticed with a clothing mishap by a recording device. Never know if someone is having a howl in security or online with social media.
Like Shwa Girl said, discreet mention that a situation needs attention is the way to go.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

Okay, you asked for it!!!! I am now dating myself but for you ladies who remember.... in the late 80's/early 90's, the wraparound skirts were in style. Simply tie it up around your waist and off you went. Well my girlfriend and I went to go watch a Leaf Game at Maple Leaf Gardens. If anyone of you have ever been there, you would know that the seats were extremely narrow (your knees would hit the seat in front of you). Well my girlfriend and I were in seat # 1 and seat # 2, then there were approximately 20 "males" sitting in the same row. You all know how men love to drink during sporting events ....well every 2 minutes we had to get up and down to let the men through to use the restrooms. During the 3rd period....NOT THE FIRST OR SECOND....BUT THE 3RD.... I looked down the stairs and asked my girlfriend what that black thing was......she said "OMG, that's your skirt"!! So here I was sitting in my panties at a hockey game with thousands of people in attendance. From going up and down so often, my skirt untied and fell off . With all the men going back and forth, they managed to kick it down the stairs. So I just asked my girlfriend to go and get it for me. Now, can I just get up and put my skirt back on??? Nope, I just put it in my purse and told my friend to take off her cardigan so I could put it on to go home.

yeah, don't worry about it OP. That kind of thing happens to my DH on a daily basis. We were in chapters the other day and he looked down and said, "oh my god, I forgot to change out of my work clothes before we left." he was wearing grease stained pants and a shirt with a rip under the arm.
toronto166's post made me laugh--and cringe a little too because I once went to a casino with DH and some friends; was wearing a nice short skirt that was kinda ruffled. Went to the bathroom and was wearing pantyhose but they weren't the stay ups kind--they were the kind with the waist and the crotch and everything and I managed to get the bottom of the skirt stuck in the top of the pantyhose--so while the front was looking just fine to me--the back of was neatly tucked into the pantyhose waistband and I was walking around the casino like that with my butt and my undies sticking out.
The upside? It's a casino. Everyone is agog staring at the machines and not at the nut job who forgot to check her skirt when she left the bathroom.
Never made THAT mistake twice."Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken." Oscar Widle
