BUT to clarify could I write cheques from my scotiabank account and drain my accounts and deposit them in PC or Tangerine via either CIBC or Scotiabank machines? Or do I need to mail the cheques like you said? And do the cheques need to be in $100 counts (as per your comment) or was that just an example?
@jasperandchar, if the location of Scotiabank is convenient for you, then I'd say it's a win-win! You get to bank at Scotia with no fees.

Is it possible to get both Tangerine and PC for you? I find the free cheques and having some locations in grocery stores plus all CIBC locations very convenient.

For your question about emptying your accounts, you do have to mail a cheque to open the account for Tangerine (unless you happen to be at their Toronto locations). The only reason I said $100 is to get the bonus $25 - 50 they'll give you if you make the cheque at least $100. If you're in the Toronto locations (downtown or north Toronto), no cheque is necessary, just ID. If I remember correctly, I still needed to give PC a cheque even though I went to the kiosk in person, but at least I didn't have to mail it.

I thought this was neat. You can sign up for an account in a cargo box (or whatever they're called).

Telephone options are slightly different. Tangerine is open 24-7, while PC has a blackout period during 12 AM - 7 AM. If you wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat about finances, they can't help you.

The money order is slightly cheaper at the big banks if you have a free account with them. If not, it's not worth it. PC used to give bonus points each month based on how much you had in your account, the number of years you banked with them, etc. They got rid of that awhile ago. As Frugalbigmama says, they give you points if you use their financial cards (debit or MC) to pay.

Shhhh.....it's interesting, it's fascinating, it's empowering! You can't say it's boring before you've read it. When I was in school, I went to the Bay and sprayed my favourite on a test strip. To this day, Chanel Allure reminds me of analytical chemistry. Maybe you can try it?

He is going to ask for a copy of the report (fingers crossed they give him a copy) as he meets with his specialist on April 7th.

After dh's assessment we are going to use the "free" dog wash facility which is part of the new Pet Smart facility in the same town as dh's assessment so Chester will have a bath, it should be interesting as he hates getting a bad and it turns into a rodeo where I get soaked and so does the whole washroom .

It's snowing here and to think yesterday was such a beautiful day .

Dh wants to run into WM to purchase a movie (he is a movie buff and get's a monthly budget for that) and I'll pick up some more popcicles and pm NF flyer at $1.97 I can't go wrong.

    Wishing everyone a wonderful day.

I've send my bank an email requesting that my bank fees for my primary account be waived, waiting for their reply as I indicated they have more to lose than I do so should be interesting to see what they say .

    Question???

I am considering switching to PC financial, anyone have any feedback on their services, banking accounts, or other suggestions for no fee banking such as Tangerine, etc.

Also do they send you cheques and also how do you switch your balance from your current bank to your new bank, do you submit a request to PC financial or must you do a physical withdrawal and deposit into the new financial institution or can it be done electronically some how through my transfer options with Scotiabank, sorry when I switched from TD to Scotiabank, Scotiabank did all the leg work that's about 10 years ago, however, they forgot to inform me that TD charged a handling fee . I did however need to send voided cheques to everyone that did automatic deposits and withdrawals which was fine.

    THANKS

Tangerine requires you to still have a brick and mortor bank. Don't truly understand why but when i tried to remove my credit union account they wanted a new external account to link to it.

I love tangerine for saving because i don't access it by card to remove cash because all the banks locally are on a network that charges a fortune to acess tangerine via atm.

I also like the mobile cheque deposit. Any clothing allowance through work i take s pic of the chequeand deposit it without having to leave work.

I dont think id switch over completely. Because of the atm fees and the b&m requirements

Another fan of both Tangerine and PC. I still have a Td account but keep the minimum to avoid the fee. I can't close it becuase that is where the secured LOC is. When you have no mortgage is a good idea to have a secured LOC ( avoids title insurance).
J&C you may like about PC is that you get PC points for your daily banking so it all adds up. I like the free cheques. As SS said there were great when the kids were in day care. Now i probably don't write even one a month.
Its very easy to link the accounts for moving money into savings and the kids accounts.

@sweet sparrow at least analytical chemistry is interesting (to me).

I didn't even crack the spine. I read two articles posted online to read instead. They were actually interesting and gave me some insight to a newer teaching-learning model we are following at school. It was interesting because it is a based on teacher-centred inquiry and yet our board is using it to push system goals. lol. Make them think we are doing bottom-up when in fact we are doing top-down. I should copy and paste this comment into the course forum. Ah so much more fun to comment here...one work, one play.

I love PC. I was forced into it, sorta. I had to open new accounts, ect.... as I was filing a consumer proposal and it was the recommendation of the trustee. But I'm glad I was nudged into it.

I just physically withdrew my money and deposited it into my PC account, then closed my other account. And did all my direct deposits. It was fairly painless.

You use CIBC banking machines. But they now offer e-deposit where you take a picture of your cheque with your own and their app and deposit it that way. No need to go to the bank.

You get free cheques sent by mail. If you need things that you would normally go into the bank for, you order it online and pick it up at a CIBC bank.

Good morning, everyone! Well, March goals finally done. Taxes filed, return received, and now it's been more than spent. We just signed up for a new patio door, a new side door, another window, and our old and rusted out screen doors. It all should have been done when the home renovation tax credit was on, but we just bought the house and were replacing the furnace and AC at the time.

The patio door had one out of two locks broken and the side door was too small for the frame. We tried weatherstripping the side door, but when it's too small, the seal just couldn't get tight enough.

We have one roof quote so far and the amount came in at five figures for about 800 sq. ft. There is a brown spot developing at the side of the house so I'm going to get someone to make sure it's not the eavestroughs that are damaged. The roofer said we may be able to get 3-4 years out of our shingles so I'm hoping it's the cheaper option!

I know... We just negotiated the cost of the new windows and I'm still reeling from the cost. However, I know if you let the roof get too bad before the repair, insurance won't cover the damage. We're being quoted for 40 year shingles with one of the best companies in the GTA, not the 15 year shingles, which should last a bit longer. Our friends who have a much bigger house got the cheaper ones with a crew that speaks no English and it was half the cost. I'd be worried that something would go wrong and you would have to find someone else to fix the damage.

While I was on the phone, I asked about metal roofing (50+ years) just for fun and it was $25,000. Ha ha ha! Oh my goodness. No wonder they put financing on every ad. I don't think our house is going to be passed down to our children's children, so we'll go with the 40 year shingles, which will probably last 20. We'll get more quotes in three years and see if it's just the eavestroughs that are overflowing and making our roof leak. The salesman said that there was slight cracking in the shingles, but nothing he sees that would make him bring in the crew tomorrow.

Our tub in the faucet is leaking. I'd love to switch to the cartridge-less ones but I'm worried that might involve ripping up the tiling. The bathroom desperately needs to be re-done as well, so maybe the problem is just the eavestrough and we can do it next year. Right now, I'm hoping DH will do it. I would, but I think I've spent too much time away from LO lately.

@sweet sparrow - When I bought my house 5 years ago the house inspector showed me pictures of my roof shingles. He said I could wait a few years but I figured why chance it and had arranged for it to be done the day after I moved in. (the previous owner was great for letting me send roofers there for quotes) I went with a company that was well known in my area (family business) and had been around for generations. I would be scared to go with an unknown roofing company (fly by night etc)
