OK, so we've all heard about Occupy Wall St. I get it. Protesting against banks who gave their CEOs a $50M bonus for making a mess of things makes sense. I also get why there would be a protest in London, England (another banking fiasco). But I don't get Toronto? Maybe I'm just dense, but I really don't get what the protest is all about.

I've tried searching through various media sources, read some posts on their FB wall, but the only recurring theme seems to be "make the rich poor and the poor rich", sort of a take on Twain's Prince & the Pauper. Except, I don't think these folks realize that Mark Twain was a satirist.

If anyone has any thoughts, opinions, links to more info, please post them here. & whatever our opinions, I think we are all adult enough to keep our words civilized.

I don't get it either?? I mean some people have worked really really hard to earn their millions while these people are camping out in the park? Do they not have jobs they need to go to?
While I get that some people do try to earn money and don't get anywhere close to having millions and scrape by, I don't see how camping in a park in the cold is going to help them any??

I think they find it unfair that the 1% controls the government and the economy and the rest of the people don't have a choice.

I mean, people are in that position because of the choices they made. I found a good picture that went against what most people were protesting about.

Any ways, I don't know about the rest of Canada, but Occupy Vancouver is getting out of hand. They were just told to dismantle their tarp since it's a fire hazard. Now a 20 year old Woman had died from OD.

I think occupy vancouver has cost the city half a million or more just to ensure those people's safety.

What's happening is that people who feel helpless against the bloated gluttony of big business are finally forming a loosely cohesive group to let them know that such disregard for them will NOT go unnoticed. As far as having jobs to go to, I think it' quite evident that even on SC there are many members who have difficulty finding jobs that pay enough of a wage to live on and pay off their student debts! Extrapolate that number across the country and we may get some idea of how difficult it is for " those other lazy people".

The one good thing that has come out of this movement so far, is the "Move your money." day, encouraging people to pull their money out of those big banks (you know...the ones like the Bank of America that wanted to add another charge onto debit card holders so that they not only continue to pay at debit machines, but an EXTRA monthly fee just fir the privilege of having that card in the first place!)..and deposit their.
Money into credit union type banks which actually give back to their own communities!

However, unless they have a real agenda across the board, real demands, it may unfortunately just fizzle out.

BTW...the B of M suddenly thought it wasn't such a good idea to implement that new charge.

    And the beat gies on.....

The thing is...receiving a SHOLARSHIP isn't something everyone can snag. hands up...How many of us have?
With unemployment rates so high particularly in the US, it's just not the graduates who can't find jobs.....many on HERE can't either.

Thanks, Andi, for starting the thread... I've wanted to for weeks, but bit my tongue instead...

In many places, such as Saskatoon, the Occupy movement really has been a farce. The one held here was NOT structured upon the movement it was in other places - instead, it's been a huge mishmosh of 'causes' - none or few had to do with the global monetary crisis or anti-banking.
For the overall movement, the 1% thing is such garbage - e.g. don't a lot of the so-called protesters have smartphones? Hm.... I don't...
Time for everyone to go back home to live in their parents' basements...

I know, Lynn, I wasn't able to way back when. And work is pretty scarce in my neck of the woods and a lot of people are finding it very difficult.

I'm just having an 'antagonize folks' day. Don't mind me.

Well you scared me there for a minute, Dave....my wish is that your kids will all snag good jobs in their fields of choice in the future and not have to continue this "rag tag" movement. Perhaps someone will come forward and bring everyone together and will then determine what their goals are, but until then I doubt it's putting any fear into those who reside in penthouses and look down on everyone else.

    Nice debating you, my Friend...

Look at the people in it, that should say enough. The tea party is made out to be the violent revolutionaries, but all their events are peaceful.

The occupy movement has a growing number of rapes (I think up to 4 now), and over 2500 arrests. There is drug use, violence, and public mischief (anyone see the pictures of the guy taking a crap on the cop car, or pushing the cop off his motorcycle?)

The occupy movement is endorsed by the usa communist party, the american nazi party, david duke, white supremacist groups, terrorist organizations, and other fun groups like that.

They are a bunch of pot smoking hippies trying to bring down the government, but they don't have a brain in their head to figure out that if the system comes down, it's not going to be another woodstock. It's going to be complete economic collapse, starvation, mass graves, and terrible violence.

Want to know what's going to happen? Read about the Weimar Republic. It will scare the crap out of you when you read that right before the nazi's came into power, things were pretty much exactly like they are today.

The system is terribly broken, but it won't be fixed by crashing it down.

Please prepare, things are coming down at a rapid pace, Europe is about to crash, and it will domino to the US. The economy is about to come down, and most people aren't ready for it.
