Of course, the fraction of Harper's supporters that are self righteous bigots (not all supporters CPC of course), are freaking out that Canada might help.

Gotta love those Northern Foundation types.

I don't like to think of myself as a bigot, I'm an atheist and religious extremists do frighten me. While most of these refugees are likely just people trying to get their families to safety, there is the danger that extremists will hide amongst them and make their new home here. We have no way to vet these people so I think opening the doors wide open and welcoming everyone is a recipe for disaster. Religious extremism is a major reason for the upheaval going on across the Middle East right now that has killed hundreds of thousands, and I do not want it here. I would be happy for Canada to let in a million refugees from there if I knew it would be safe for us to do so. But how can we know that?

I said the the bigots are freaking out. I didn't say that everyone who is cautious about refugees is a bigot.

If you aren't a bigot, I wasn't speaking about you. No need to be so sensitive, sheesh!

I thought it would be pretty clear when I mentioned the Northern Foundation.

Religion is what worries me. Canada is a tolerant country, it's one of the best things about us. Some people from some faiths are not tolerant, however. Some are not tolerant to the point of violence. This is what worries me.

The family of the 2 boys had their previous refugee claim rejected. Now they are offered instant citizenship, which they have declined considering the circumstances.

They were likely never considered a terror/security threat, yet the refugee claim had been denied. Why?

The question is not where is Canada in this equation but where the hell-o are the Arab nations?

Actually that is not the factual. It turns out it was the OTHER brother of the woman who lives in B.C. who's family applied for Citizenship, but they were denied because their paperwork was incomplete. The man that suffered the loss of his 2 boys and his wife had never applied for Citizenship.
I was watching the news reports all day and I too saw the man in agony sobbing over the caskets of his family, but from what I read later on along the " crawl " was he was actually NOT offered immediate citizenship. Sometimes the media goes too far in wanting to get the story out first as well as blame someone, and it was really insulting to Canada to suggest that those report were true.

The media did a very poor job of reporting this and was way too quick to assign blame. The mother of the dead child even said she didn't blame Canada, while reporters kept trying to get her to do so

Why Syrians do not flee to Gulf states

As the crisis brews over Syrian refugees trying to enter European countries, questions have been raised over why they are not heading to wealthy Gulf states closer to home.
Although those fleeing the Syrian crisis have for several years been crossing into Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey in huge numbers, entering other Arab states - especially in the Gulf - is far less straightforward.
Officially, Syrians can apply for a tourist visa or work permit in order to enter a Gulf state.
But the process is costly, and there is a widespread perception that many Gulf states have unwritten restrictions in place that make it hard for Syrians to be granted a visa in practice..

Representatives of the Canadian Kurdish community have expressed anger and outrage at the liberals and NDP for using this issue for political gain and have called Minister Alexander a great friend of the Kurdish Commnity
