In Oregon, Shooting at Umpqua Community College

A shooting at a building at a community college in Oregon has killed at least seven people and as many as 10, law enforcement officials said Thursday.


The first 911 calls reported shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Ore., at 10:38 a.m., local officials said, putting the college on lockdown as a number of law enforcement agencies responded. Roseburg is about three hours south of Portland.


According to a spokesman for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department, the shooting took place in Snyder Hall, a building on campus where science classes are held. The gunman was no longer at large, the authorities said, but it was not clear if that meant he was alive or dead.

Umpqua Community College has about 3,300 full-time students and 16,000 part-time students. It is located just less than 70 miles south of Eugene.

Oh, my...first of all, God be with the family and friends of the victims of this shooter.

Darth, did you read that transcript? I'm stuck by that last person's "that's why nobody likes you" post...so another out-cast? Another person who was bullied? Rejected?
NOT that that's an okay reason to kill people, but I wonder at his reasons....
Whatever they were, I do hope they come to light for the sake of the investigation....how absolutely tragic.

So much for contacting authorities when someone posts stuff like this...one little call could have prevented the killing! Even if it turned out to be nothing, for heaven's sake, report it! There are ways to do that anonymously, isn't there? They may have found that illegal weapon (I'm assuming that if it was an automatic weapon it would be illegal?)....

And apparently Oregon has a psychological review before issuing firearms..a fat lot of good that did in this case!

It's not guns that are the issue, it is "mental health" which is something about the way one person thinks.

That's just it, it's mental health that is at issue in mass murders, not guns. If some person has gotten to the point in their mental dysfunction that they want to kill dozens of people, lack of access to a gun is not going to stop them or even slow them down. The gun isn't making them do anything, it's a tool they use to act out whatever madness has them in its grip. Without a gun they can use a knife, or a vehicle or a bomb, or a Bic lighter and burn down an apartment building with a hundred people in it. Thinking banning guns makes insane people or criminals go away is about as ridiculously simplistic as you can get.

You can't buy a gun in Oregon till you are 21....he had that illegally then or took it from an unsecured spot in a relatives house
