Lol, @Newfiescreech, that's the very picture I was going to put on here, but I thought it would be too huge. Turns out it's perfect in so many ways....so much more luscious than the dry, tasteless offerings in stores.
And YOU make gumdrop cake, too??!! Me, too! Now I want gumdrop cake!!!
I've never made a cherry cake, but I've had it at a friend's home. Isn't it wonderful how simpke ingreduents can change tge taste of the actual "cake"? If you know what I mean...hahaha!!!
When do you start your cakes. I 've usually waited about 6 weeks before Christmas, "basting" it in the freezer with brandy...often...Last edited by Lynn49; Wed, Oct 4th, 2017 at 05:41 PM.

you guys are killing me!! Christmas??, drinks??, cake??
True confessions.....I put so much rum in a batch of cakes one year that it was like eating and drinking in one bite!!
DH and I are both a fan of the darker, very little flour, tons of fruits/nuts/rum kind of cake.
Today has been simply glorious! no one to drive anywhere, no cooking ( well I mean a few pieces of cod sauteed up early this morning ) but soon I'll be donning my brand spanking new NHL jersey ( Kadri #43 ) and my newly purchased ( WalMart )
Maple Leafs pj bottoms and watching the game!!
DH laughed as he came to the rec room and asked " oh could you not find anything else " Leaf " related to hang up?
I had bought a new large flag and a poster a few days ago and already hung them up down there....ha ha GO LEAFS GO!!

Yup, that's my cake, @walkonby !!! Cake and brandy in one mouthful! hahaha!!! Mmmmmm...all the cutting up of fruit, the smell in the kitchen...can't wait!!!
I'm so addicted to Christmas anything, I've already purchased a few advent gifts for our Grandson, and two other bigger gifts for our DD and for her in-laws. It's so nice to have some things put aside already.
Our Thanksgiving will be next weekend, since we'll be at CasinoRama this weekend...hm. How to decorate our Daughter's dining table......left to her it would be all silver which is far too Christmassy, although she does have the rust-coloured damask tablecloth I sewed years ago....sorry, I babble, but..........I love holidays!!!!

Made another meatball pizza with spinach this time. Damn I bought way too many ingredients to make pizza's lol. I have so much pancake mix (yes it makes good pizza crust ok ) So much pizza sauce and bbq sauce and lots of mozza cheese. Also bought 3 huge bags of frozen meatballs. Although I did buy way more frozen fruit than pizza stuff. I bought 10 bags of the Europe's best frozen fruit.

Hopefully you can freeze those pizza ingredients, Cabbie, even sauces and pancake mix can be frozen. Maybe freeze that mix in portions for a couple of pizzas! The reason I suggest that is because I'm paranoid. If I see a bug anywhere and thank heavens I never do, I'd pitch the whole dang thing. I keep most of my flour, icing sugar in the freezer, starch in the fridge. Oh...we freeze cheese blocks, too. Hard to shred when thawed, but it sure crumbles nicely!

Hey, @walkonby! What's up with the un-tucking of the shirt?! We've never heard of that before.
And yes, just for you, @22hicks, and @Newfiescreech, I am watching the game with my Hubby.
Fehr jusr said something about "tighter shirts".....really?
So, after some googling, Adidas now has the contract for the shirts and are responsible for a whole lot of negativity wrt some of the new designs. And apparently they're now more "form fitting", a request from the NHL. They said. So there, mystery solved.Last edited by Lynn49; Wed, Oct 4th, 2017 at 10:38 PM.

I agree with walkonby about all this talking about baking and Christmas . I love a fruit cake and black cake which have lots of alcohol in them. Not a drinker but love those cakes. Walkonby I guess u were like myself and DH but I had survivor also to watch so was switching in between both. Watch the game in my room because DH does not like me to touch the remote when the leafs are on lol. Must say a good start for our boys in Blue

@Lynn49 because of the possibility of mice around here I keep alomost all my food in the fridge including the pancake mix. However if I have too I will put it in the freezer at some point. Currently freezer is completely loaded with frozen meatballs and all the frozen fruit.

oh what a night!! I mean my guy Kadri started us off with the first goal and they just kept on coming!! Woo hoo!
I wanted him to be one of the 3 stars, but Anderson nearly had a shutout playing so great during all those Jets power plays.
@Lynn49 I was more puzzled by Komarov's visor infraction and Anderson's blue goalie stick tape being covered over with white tape than the silly tucked in shirts thing!
Honestly......I actually expected to see more " slashing " penalties called.
( cannot remember how many were in that preseason game the other night...but soooo many )
lol @flemeth I hold the remote when DH and I watch tv because he is waaaay to slow on rewinding the plays to capture things we didn't quite believe we saw ( he ALWAYS hits the back channel button by mistake instead of the rewind button )
Then we can't replay it in slow mo.
I also flipped back and forth tonight to see the Diamondbacks win the NL Wild card game. The Yankees wild card game last night was a weird game to watch. Watching BOTH starters taken out in the 1st and 2nd innings was crazy! I was certain the Twins were gonna take it, but that darn Aaron and his HR's!!
Plus Yankees have that killer closer ( Chapman ) good grief, he is amazing!
Time to read a few threads and then call it a night! Hey it's Thursday already!
