So my husband was laid off last week, we have to cut all costs and be extremely careful until he gets new work... So that meant cutting all entertainment money AND cutting my grocery bill in half. This is what we did.

Friday night, we joined the library and borrowed a bunch of movies. Had nice warm baths and watched movies together.

Saturday, we were given movie passes to go see Monster Trucks from a friend! That was another wonderful free night.

Today, we went to costco with our rebate check to grab some groceries (Only like $25 but still) Got snacks, sausages, yogurt and spaghetti sauce for $8 oop. Next was Walmart, We were able to get the rest of the food we needed for the week (including fruit, milk, cheese and snacks) for $51 (had some in the freezer so I didnt need a ton of meat).

So for $60 I am able to feed my family of 4 for over a week and we had 2 activities this weekend!

Thanks, We are in Alberta... Not much assistance. But we had a bit of savings and and some positive movement with hubbys employment coming the week.

I guess I forgot to brag about that part... The husband has been in contact with lots of old co-workers and bosses so we are expecting some interviews this coming week. I don't think his un-employment will last too long, just have to cut costs to maintain everything till he is working and paychecks start coming in again.

That is awesome. We've done some things like bought small paintable items from the dollarstore (they had at one point a canvas with the paint).

I've collected macdonalds coffee stickers and save them when filled for a fancy coffee drink out.

We've lately been playing a lot of board games. So that is always fun. It is also a cheap night in with friends to get some board games together and play over some snacks.

I am so glad that your DH will be in work again. It is great too that you had some savings to keep you going. I know too many people with financial stuff going on and there is no savings to fall back on.

@Frugal Lisa --you've got a great attitude which will help you cope with a not-so-fun situation. You are going to come out of this a winner!
When the paychecks start again, you will remember how you have managed with less and will always save for any rainy-days.

making a few small sacrifices can get you through until DH does get employed once again.....having nice warm baths and snuggling up with a movie is perfect! Best of luck @Frugal Lisa
