so, after paying my monthly rent, cable , food bils .... I'm left with a $779.44 surplus for the month of March, that said.... can you live on that for the rest of the month? I know I can, it's just me and my frugality

I don't make much income, but still manage to stay within ZERO debt.

That's after paying your bills? OMG thats like a lottery winfall for me. My family of 3 has survived on less than $1000 for a whole month and that's before I paid my rent and bills.

I don't think we could survive on that. Our car, life and home insurance is about half that.

That's amazing that you're managed to stay debt-free, keep up the great work!

That doesn't seem that tight to me considering you've already paid rent, cable and food. My fiance and I are currently living on less than that a month after those bills (or equivalent) are paid.

Get rid of the cable if you can. You will be surprised how many high definition ovet the air (OTA) channels you can get for FREE with a OTA antennae.

Wow..the area I live in , the cheapest rent is $ 1,000 per month with utilities..this includes even basement apartments ..apartments in buildings are even more than that.

How much rent do you pay ? Are utilities like water, hydro and heating included in that rent ?

How much do you pay for transport ? Even if you don't have a car and don't have to worry about gas, insurance, maintenance etc..just public transport can get pretty expensive too

I think many of us could get by quite comfortably with that remaining income HOWEVER the key is, you are not in debt.
THAT is WHY you have that left over.
Some of my clients pay up to $2500 a month JUST in interest payments. . .be it mortgage, credit cards, loans or whatever.
Debt has a way of sucking up a LOT of your income.

True, gradually we are all reaching a point where "Debt" becomes unserviceable & the system goes for reset..... At individual level it's called bankruptcy & at public level it's called default..
Even a dollar left in your budget is fine so long as you are debt free.. This way you can use your resources effectively, for your benefit (not like majority of Canadians who pay a substantial interest every month)

Goodness!! You're rich! If you save that much per month until you retire, you can have a money room like Scrooge McDuck and swim in it!

Is that amount after paying *all* your bills? If so, that's fantastic! Definitely sock any extra away, you never know when you might need it!

For us, 1/3 of our income goes towards rent, car insurance, internet, utilities, and Netflix. Well that's when DH gets back to work, he's laid off for the winter (he just got a raise before he was laid off, so our income will increase) But we are two adults and two children (one still in diapers) with a cat and a dog, so the other 2/3's takes a big hit once groceries and household necessities are paid for. However, other then a small student loan DH owes, we are debt free, and working on putting money aside into savings for a used car and eventually a house.

good for you OP and yes. we thankfully managed to pay off our debt awhile back and couponing has helped immensely.
we went without cable for nearly 3 years.. we used an antenna then they switched over to Digital. and we lost everything. so we got cable.
