I have a few close and awesome friends but tend to be selective. My husband and I are really close and great friends too. I find it hard to make friends because it is hard to open up sometimes. I guess a big part of me realizes that if someone doesn't like me for who I am deep down then they are not worth it in the end. Not that rejection doesn't sting!

I have no real friends in my town. I stopped talking to everyone because I just dont have time for them. Besides, we are all at different places in life, I have a huge family that is demanding enough.
Plus, who needs friends when you got enemies?LOL

I have 1 bestest friend (if that's even a word) in the world and that is my DH
He truely is my one and only person I can count on to drop everything and be by my side.
I on the other hand am the kind of friend that will literally drop everything to be by someones side even though it isn't returned

i have many aquaintances, but only a few true friends that i could call up anytime and ask for anything.it is sad but i don't make friends easy, and the ones i do have are ones i've had forever.i like making new friends but never feel as comfortable around new friends as i do with the few i have that i trust.

I guess, for many, it takes years to build trust with friends. I think as we get older, it just gets harder to make new friends. It's not like when i was younger and just go bug a girl to play with me..lol! Can you just imagine if i did that today with some lady at the grocery store..she'd probably call the cops! LOL!!!

I feel for you frugal.
One of my cats died back in April, I'd been her companion for nearly 17 years at the time..It's hard bedcause we devote so much time to all members of our famiuly, human or not and the non-human give us back totally un-conditional love and acceptance..
I hope you find healing soon.

Frugal, I'm so sorry to hear about your cat. I have been going through the same thing this fall (Sherry had to be euthanized September 8 due to advancing stomach cancer that was likely terminal - I had promised her (and me) that I would do everything that I could do for her, and if I couldn't help her I would ensure that she did not suffer), and things have certainly not been the same for me since.
Although I know it would not be the same and might still be too painful for you, are you considering getting another pet? It's not to replace your dear kitty - I know that nothing could, but it is instead to start a new relationship with a new companion that needs somebody to love. I could see that it might take a while to get to that point after your loss, but it is something to think about, especially as it sounds like you've got a lot of love and care to give to another companion.

update: i got a new cat a few weeks ago
he was shelter bound and i got him in the nick of time, he's five years old and a real beauty
i can't imagine living my life without the companionship of a furry friend
of course.... he doesn't replace my late cat, but i am so grateful for the void he is filling my life
nobody has even seen him and i doubt if they will
it's just me and my kitty

I have very recently moved (two weeks ago) to a whole new area. I had a bunch of acquaintances and family, but I don't think I had very many best friends (other than my husband). Now that I've moved, I'm not sure how to go about meeting new people. I think that once I get pregnant and start attending pre-natal classes and mommy and me classes I'll meet people. I've always met people at university in the past, so I think that I'll meet people in the same stage of life as myself by going to classes and events that I enjoy. Theoretically, if I enjoy it and they enjoy it, perhaps we have more in common that just that one thing.
