This is the actual turn-off From Banff, Alberta, Canada to the #1 highway to Calgary. Great picture isn't it? They had to build the animals (especially the elk) their own crossing because that was where The natural crossing was and after the highway was built there were far too many accidents. It didn't take the animals long to learn that this was their very own bridge! And then you have some people saying ' Animals are stupid '. Really....?This thread is currently associated with: N/A

The people who say "animals are stupid" have a LOT to learn from the animals!!
Name-calling for one: they never call anyone stupid!
Things like this warm my heart...thank you for posting..and yes, it would be better if humans didn't invade their territories at all, but geez.....at least this is something!!!

Canadian firm makes animal bridge finals
A Toronto-based architectural firm is one of five finalists in a contest to design a bridge for animals.
Janet Rosenberg & Associates took up the challenge of devising a safe way for bears, cougars and other animals to cross major highways.
The ARC contest, the International Wildlife Crossing Structure Design Competition, aims to reduce animal-vehicle collisions. There are already several animal crossings in the world, including monkey bridges and mice tunnels, but nothing on the scale proposed by Rosenberg & Associates.

There was a lot of uproar when they were building this. A lot of people thought it was a waste of money. I for one wanted it. Banff has changed so much over the past 35 years that I have been going there, fewer and fewer animals in town. The more people invade, the fewer animals thre are in the area. I say we should build as many bridges in our national parks as we have commercial buildings. The animals were there first.
