I saw this before but was reminded again today on facebook

"When you get your berries home, prepare a mixture of one part vinegar (white or apple cider probably work best) and ten parts water. Dump the berries into the mixture and swirl around. Drain, rinse if you want (though the mixture is so diluted you can't taste the vinegar,) and pop in the fridge. The vinegar kills any mold spores and other bacteria that might be on the surface of the fruit, and voila! Raspberries will last a week or more, and strawberries go almost two weeks without getting moldy and soft."

Wow, thanks for the tip. I love berries and have been gobbling them down before they go bad. Just the right season too.

Thanks for the tip. I might try it with strawberries, they always seem to go bad before any other fruit. The most important thing I've done to keep fruit (especially berries) fresh is to buy them from stores that have good stocking practices.

Berries from Safeway, for example, will last twice as long as those from Superstore. I usually buy when they are on sale, might not be as cheap as the thriftier stores, but I'm wasting less in the long run.

Thanks I use the dollar store version of green bags for my produce but I don't find they work that well with blueberries or cherries. They tend to go soft fairly quickly. I will have to try this.
I am looking for quick trades for my pre-surgery stock up!

I seem to be buying fruit every week. There is only dh and I now, but we both love it so it doesnt last that long around here either. I have though, had the odd batch of strawberries mold on the bottom so this is a great tip. I will try it. I have never washed my berries before storing them because of the mold issue, I always waited until I was ready to use them. Thanks

It's also fantastic with bacon, too: take the whole whack of bacon out of the icky package, give it a quick rinse, but you don't separate the strips. Dab dry-ish with a paper towel, slip them into the cereal bag, and you'll never have icky sticky bacon ever again! They stay fresh and dry! Same goes for all deli meats! Fantastic for lettuce: quick rinse, dry, and slip into the bag: crisp lettuce for evah!!!

Thanks you for the tip I love blueberries ,strawberries and rasberries but they dont last because of that fact...and I hate to waste them ...fruits are dispensive too..so its a great tip

Another tip my uncle learned me when I purchase and cut a pineapple....boil 1 cup of water and then add 1 cup of sugar let it dilluated...and then let it cool ...put it into a container(like ziploc one) and then put the cut pineapple...this way the sirup will make those preserving 1 week

Or rinse the lettuce (romaine or whatever you like) ....fill the sink with cold water..add 1 table spoon of salt...and put the lettuce to clean...the sand or dirty thing...after put it in the salad essoror...and then in ziploc bag...fresh,,crispy and clean salad!!!
