Hi!
I have been racking my brain around this all day and i hope someone can help me figure out what it means.
Last night while i was sleeping a voice woke me up. It was about 2 am when i got up to go to the bathroom and i'd say about 30 minutes later i heard that voice. I was half asleep, and this voice was calling my name. I opened my eyes, jumped for the light switch and nothing was there. hubby woke up and wanted to know why i opened the light. I asked him if he heard a voice and he just looked at me like i lost a couple of marbles..lol
I told my mom about it today, and she says she heard by someone else that it usually means something terrible will happen. So my question is, does someone know what it could mean? any similar experience like mine?
In case someone wants to know, it was a girls voice. I remember her voice was very soft and she knew my name. It's not someone i know and it wasnt a child..the voice sounded more mature. Also, we bought this house a little over a year ago, nothing strange ever happened before, the man living in this house before us built this house in the 70's and he died years ago in a hospital. So overall, the house as no bad history.

Just a dream, maybe a lucid dream.
My nightmare last night was a dog with his jaw wide open biting me on the forearm; the more I pulled away the bigger and meaner he got and the more he bit.
My son told me in the morning he heard me screaming, but my husband didn't... (I thought I just yelled in my sleep, you know?)

I seriously doubt anything bad is going to happen. I have read tons of ghost books, never heard that before. If it is ghost related (I am not a believer in that), it most likely means a child is calling for justice.
Otherwise, I think it was a dream. I have read that your thoughts can produce some intense dreams at times, but I have not experienced any myself since I was in junior high.

But i wasnt even fully asleep.. i even remember hearing my hubby snoring..lol It's hard to explain, but you know when your feeling like your falling asleep but your not at that point yet? you can still hear sounds around you but just too tired to open your eyes? Just the other night, i was at that point and i could still hear my cats running up and down my hallway.. it just felt way too real...

i had a similar incident..but not someone calling my name but hearing foot steps coming towards my bedroom then stop at my bedroom door entrance (and my bedroom door was open) to the point of me waking up (and i have carpet). I got up to see if it was the kids and but were fast asleep. i proceded to check to whole house and there was no one (thankfully). It took me a while to go back to sleep cause that was beyond creepy. i told my mom about it the next day and she bought rosemary leaves and put it inbetween our matresses....just in case it is some spirit...hey these days you never know. Plus I've been in this house for 4 yrs and the lady that owned the house also had died. (in the hospital i was told form cancer).
Good luck Kalmel in finding an answer

The only sleep issues I ever have is waking up from a dream where I was some place in my underwear

But I am fascinated by weird dreams. Our minds lack manners.

I wouldn't be too worried. It can happen sometimes that memories from the day get mixed up with our dreams, ending up with some super creepy stuff! If you were just surprised and didn't have a feeling of being threatened or that you were in danger, I would just write it off as a lucid dream or something supernatural but not dangerous.
Although I'm normally a very logical and an "evidence, please" person, I've never been fully convinced that there isn't anything supernatural going on when you least expect it. For example: my grandmother always, always wakes up smelling white lilies sometime in the 48 hours in advance of anyone in the family dying - even in cases of sudden and unpredictable deaths, like auto accidents... it's seriously creepy. We've even booked travel (correctly) to attend funerals and visitations based on her dreams. I have also had some rather creepy and unexplainable experiences myself (example: while working as a security guard at one specific building, I sometimes smelled strong smells that weren't discernible to anyone else and heard running footsteps in an empty building, etc.), so I know better than to be too doubtful of others' experiences

This happens to one of my friends quite often and it also happenned to her mother a lot when she was still living. Their house is old and relatives died in it but neither were able to identify the voice.
Last week I was sleeping and I suddenly jumped up because it totally felt like someone leaned on the edge of the bed making my arm go down with the mattress. My grandma died about a month ago. If spirits can make their presence known, she would do it.
I don't know if I believe in ghosts, just that I've had strange things happen to me that I can't explain. I knew a friend of mine's mom was dying and I decided that the moment I knew she was dead, I'd make the long travel to provide support to my friend. So I found out one night and early the next morning when I was getting ready to leave, as I got out of the shower, there was a perfect and detailed bouquet of flowers drawn in the steam on my mirror. Nothing like that had ever happenned and I just took it as a sign that she was thanking me for being there for her daughter because it probably meant a lot to her and the family.
If you think you have a loved one trying to send a message, you can just acknowledge. If you want it to go away, you can obtain white sage and burn it. It's an aboriginal thing but many ghost hunters and some mediums also use white sage. Normally it's to get rid of negative- negative spirits, energies, thoughts...
There are sleep disorders where people can be aware like they're awake but not fully be awake and experience dream-like events in a semi awake state. If you continue to experience something like that and it bothers you or others, it may be worth getting a referral to a sleep specialist.
You're ok, weird things can happen that we can't explain. It doesn't mean a catastrophy is around the corner. Some people have weird dreams with certain medications, some have weird dreams after consuming certain foods... It's not a straight forward thing. If you have a history of smoking weed or even have just done it a couple times, you have a much higher risk of developping schizophrenia. If you're unhealthy and could have significant lacks of certain vitamins, that can also cause hallucinations. If you're concerned, talk to your doctor, but it's more likely that it's just one of those things that freaked you out that's not easily explained but isn't necessarily a problem.

If I leave my bedroom closet open I get visited by the dead. When I was little my parents said I would have full conversations. I remember one lady use to come to me a lot. She would sit on my bed and she would talk to me. It never really scared me until I got older and told people. One time a different lady came to me and told me her sister is dead and near water in the dark. The next day I saw on the news that a women was found in a garbage bag under a bridge by the river!! Totally freaked out my family!! The last time I left my closet open was for my friend's mom that died. It took a few nights but she came. She was sitting on a plastic lawn chair in rose print pjs. She told me tons of things! But when I told my friend what she was wearing ...she had to sit down. They buried her in those pjs!!! Who buries people in pjs?

YIKES! You have to repeat all these stories when my dh is away for a few days - now how am I supposed to get to sleep?
But, op, I have had that "Call your name" thing happen to me in a couple of circumstances. Years ago when it was a significant anniversary for my parents, I made a "secret" visit to town and stayed over at a friend's house so I could meet my brothers at a photographer's the next morning early and then return to where I lived. I remember I asked my hostess to wake me up at 8:00 so I could have a shower and get to the photographer's. I went to bed and slept and then distinctly heard a female call my name. It wasn't part of a dream because it woke me up. Up I got - had a shower and got ready - went down to the kitchen and it was at that time - 5:30 am. NO ONE had wakened me. But SOMEONE did! I've heard 2 other voices calling me in the last couple of weeks. One a female and one a male - when I was asleep or just at the edge of it. I hope it doesn't mean tragic things ahead!
