Seriously, from what i've written you're ready to diagnose my child with gender dysmorphia because he doesn't share what you think the "majority" of boys want? He likes the things he likes, that is not deviant behavior. He doesn't share the views of the "majority" of boys because we never told him what boys SHOULD like. We've never manipulated the things he likes to fit in with what others think is the norm. The fact is almost all of his little play date friends have hopped into my daughter's dress up dresses to play dress up, does that make them "deviant"? I know of MANY little boys who get there nails painted...that has more to do with having sisters than it does to them being "deviant". We raise both our children to believe in themselves...not rely on others to do it for them. We've taught our daughter that wearing pants are ok...50 years ago that was deviant behaviour for women, would you like to diagnose now or later doctor? Your post says more about you than mine will ever say about my son. If my son is straight, gay, transgender...I COULD NOT POSSIBLY CARE LESS, my love for him is unconditional! For the morbidly curious, I don't think my son has gender dysmorphia. I think he is unique, gentle, sweet, oblivious to the small minded jerks in the world, he doesn't know the gender norms because we've never pounded them into his impressionable little mind. We like that he sees the world, where it doesn't matter if you have a penis or a vagina...people are people.

how do you know your son does not suffer from gender dysmorphia?
    has he been clinically diagnosed?
i'm not saying he is, but he sure is showing signs of effemenent behavior
none of my brothers ever had any interest in "girly things"
they were your typical boys.... who liked to rumble and play sports.

Oh my gosh, I cannot believe the messages you post, Frugal. And I am not this child's parent.

Sounds like the OP has a child suffering from "gender dysmorphia" OR it could be his enviroment where it's encouraged and there are no set boundries.

These type of deviant behavior was unheard of 40 years ago, until it became mainstream with the likes of pop culture and youtube.... I believe society today has corrupted the moral minds of children and parents alike in the western world.

As for a six years old girl wanting pierce ears.... I would not allow it, unless it was a cultural thing. I didn't get my ears pierced until I was 21 years old.

Are you trying to be offensive? #1. What study are you referring to...the one that tells what a MAJORITY of boys want and do not want. Please provide who held the study, the test group, and what CENTURY it was conducted in. #2. Your doctorate degree in psychology was obtained at what university? I'd love for you to diagnose a few of my friends...I'll get them to come on here, post one or two things and you should be good right? 3. "deviant" nice word, do tell what else would you class as "deviant behaviour"? Girls working? Interracial marriage? Women voting? Many things in the past are now accepted because of people who didn't see anything "deviant" about their behaviour. To ALL of those people I say "well done". 4. If I'm "corrupting the moral mind" of my child my only hope is that I'll corrupt it enough that he won't turn out anything like you.

will you calm down? and stop with the personal insults

i simply ask you, has he been clinically diagnosed with gender dysmorhpia?

i'm entitled to my opinion of how boys should be raised and i happen to not agree with your freestyle upbringing a young impressionable child.

I see no need to have him "diagnosed" with anything. You've read a few things about my son and seem to think you know more than you do. You may think those snippets of information I've given make my son "effemenent", I think they're a small piece to a big puzzle...one you would never be able to appreciate the beauty of. As for your brothers, what can I say...other than I could care less what your typical brothers were interested in. All though I think if you actually had a candid conversation with your brothers you'd be surprised at what you'd find out. I'm sorry you can't see the beauty that is my son, I'm sorry you feel he needs a label or a disorder, I'm sorry you can't open your mind to the possibility that some norms are unnecessary, I'm sorry that you need boys and girls to fit into your narrow view of what's normal. These are your hang ups though and I will not make my son feel there is something wrong with him to comfort your ignorance. It's clear we'll never agree with one another so feel free to go on about your life, kindly stay out of mine. PS. If you see a little boy out there rocking some painted nails, earrings, and a kilt...feel free to cross to the other side of the road...we would appreciate it if you would...I wouldn't want my children catching the disorder that is ignorance.

When you described your son the first thing I though of was Angus from AC/DC!!!

Cool that he wants to be a rockstar, as for the ear ring, I don't see a big deal. My son is too chicken to get one and he is 16 now. Has no pain tolerance.

    Good luck

p.s. I took so much flak from all my friends when I did not whisk my daughter off at birth to get her ears pierced. She is 7 and they still bug me. Some cultures it's pretty much the first stop on the way home from the hospital

Jaybird - remember its easy for ppl without kids to judge, make comment and be negative. Do what you think is best and what makes your son and your family happy.
I knew plenty of boys in elementary school with a pierced ear...my BF had one when he was 9 and he is a wonderful, well adjusted, successful man now!

I grew up with boys in my neighbourhood who liked to push our prams around while we climbed trees and rough and tumbled with them other times, all of us turned out just fine.

Again, less of the judgement of this child and their parents please

just because someone is childless, doesn't mean they don't understand the rearing and nuturing of children, we should not be discriminated on those basis.
