Far too often we take the people we love for granted.

I should tell the back story...
Our daycare centre got a new girl when my son was enrolled - well she was actually from the sister site but was on mat. leave for a year and they put her at our centre when she returned. Anyway, she is my son's primary care provider (in charge of the toddler room).
Over the past summer we've become pretty close. Our lives are eerily similar. Both the same age, same personality, have boys the same age (within 1 month or each other), our older kids are close to the same age too, both hubbys in the same line of work, etc.
As of May - My DH has been gone off and on for work (I'm sure you all know from my complaining. lol). Her hubby started travelling in August. Same line of work, similar travelling. We bonded on how hard things are without them and cried on a few occasions together because of the stress, etc.
I even surprised her with a "survival kit" (chocolate, bubble bath, funny card, etc).
She is honestly the SWEETEST person I've met in a LONG time! And simply Fantastic with my son.
Last week I got a note in our son's cubby that she had a death in the family and she would be off for a while. Of course DH and I said to send our condolences and tell to her if there's anything we can do... You know the same old thing everyone says. I figured it was a grandparent or something and didn't think much about it.
DH just came home from a different daycare workers house (she had a plumbing emergency and called him) and told me it was her HUSBAND that died.
Seriously, I'm so stunned. There are no words for it.

I can't even say how many times I thought about DH driving home on those remote roads and stayed up worrying.
And now thinking of her going through this is just so sad. It's bad enough when you DH is gone for a few weeks, let alone forever. I feel awful for her. Having to explain to his 2 boys. My DS is a month older than hers and I dont know how I'd do it.
