geez amy, he sound phobic. i have agoraphobia/social phobia, and when i'm out of work for an extended period of time, i can't go back

he'll need lots of support. pretty frighteing what he is going thru.

It`s physically very hard and emotionally very scary to go back to work after an extended absence.

The hardest part is accepting that there is no shame in being sick and to take as much time as necessary to heal before attempting to return.

I spent 2 years being too ill to do anything, then had a transplant, but had to deal with weird complications from the dialysis (I`m one of those footnotes in medical texts). It was 5 years before I felt well enough to go out and do some volunteer work (which led to a few hours a week of real work - don`t have the stamina for more). In fact, the only reason I can do any work is that the folks there are incredibly sweet - it's mostly low stress (my boss deals with the stressful parts) and my coworkers do all the physical aspects of the job (lifting & carrying, etc). I've never met such a sweet group of people - course they're all artists and my background is in chemisty, so they tease me.

Even so, the first day I worked, I came home so tired & stressed that I collapsed in my bed and slept for 5 hours.

The hardest part of not being healthy is accepting that life might not be the same as before, and learning to pace yourself so you don`t get sick again.

Morning, thanks for all the words and interesting conversation, keeping me awake along with coffee which I rarely drink...my son now is nasty sick and was up all night with him. Hoping it goes away before halloween, never fails someone is always sick on halloween
