I have a set day for shopping which is Friday most times with an exception once in awhile, today being one of them. No tax day at Zehr's today so my no tax deals for use were bird treats and Gatorade for DH to take to work. I even remembered to get two separate receipts so I can take advantage of the Pepsi rebate for coupons. I also managed to get nine butter for .99 cents rather than $2.99 by using coupons I had.

Laundry gets started on Thursday or Friday night after 7:00 of course for the cheaper rate. Bathrooms get done twice a week if not more depending how messy DH decides to be. I vacuum when necessary but at least once a week.

Macw1960: what a deal on butter. I just realized we are down to our last three pounds. I don't have a zehrs close but maybe can convince my mom or brother to pick some up. And thanks for the reminder on no tax RCSS has it as well and I forgot to go today to will go Sunday if it's still on.

Lol, yeah I would cut the 14 year old some slack

My parents had their 38 year old son living in their basement in their 50's. Now in their mid 60's they are retired with my sister, her husband and their 2 year old living with them temporarily. I don't think life ever gets cheaper.

Lol, pretty sure my parents never expected my brother home after all these years either. His marriage ended after 20 plus years and we have both been gone since university and i know he never thought he was going home to mom and dad. We are just lucky we have family to depend on when life throws a curve ball.

I made a bit of progress. Started listing things yesterday on kijiji. There's a lot of books so that will be slow. Posted a few more things today on kijiji. So far I have about 18 items.

Also gave away one big thing and couple of bags of stuff on freecycle and go dh to drop off a box of magazines to the book exchange at the Co-op.

This is going to be a long long process but at least I've started.

So interesting about the ages of kids and parents!

I had our son when I was 30 and husband was 40.

My parents had six kids; dad was six years older than mom.

They married when mom was 19, first child when mom was close to 21.... then I was the fifth when she was 35.

She had her sixth 10 years later when she was 45 (surprize! but a welcome one!). That was in 1971, and you have to realize that raising a child when you were in your 50s was different then - they were 'older', if you know what I mean.

I always thought it was interesting that mom was 35 when she had me, and I was that age when she passed away.


My two oldest sisters had their children in their early 20s, so they had grandchildren right around when they were 50.

Yes you are right Natalka. I know in my daughters class of 14 year olds the parents range from about 35-60 I think so a broad range of ages and all at different stages of life. Most of my friends in their 50's will not consider retiring until the last child is done schooling. I bravely or crazily did so anyway and it has all worked out well so far. Having had one child in my early 30's and one in my 40's I definitely found I had more energy in my 30's than my 40's. I was like the Energizer bunny(aka Frugalbigmama) back then-working all day, cooking dinner, child activities and laundry in the evenings. I think I have slowed down a bit in my 50's-good thing I never had another child in my 50's! Now I just borrow other people's when I need my baby fix!

Good start. Once you start you get a little more inspiration to keep going. I take my books to a book store where I get a credit to buy more. The easiest way for me.

Great Progress.

I feel you on still having so much to do, our house looks like an episode of Hoarders (Our house was over flowing before Nanny got sick and passed away and her illness was short so we only had a couple of weeks to clean out her house, so we now have our over flowing house mixed with her over flowing house, it is scary we have paths through out our house) so whenever we get one thing done it only takes seconds to find another piles to be sorted.

My mom had two young as she puts it by the time she was 25 she was divorced with 2 kids and she had not even planned to start considering marriage until she 25.

Where is after the divorce my Dad remarried and had two more kids, my mom was young mom (had me at 19 bro at 22) where is my step mom was in her early 30s.

So my mom will be 50 next year and both of kids are adults where is my Dad and Step mom when they turned 50 still had teenagers in high school living at home.

As well with children coming home just as my half sis left for university and my step mom was looking at being an empty nester my bro moved back in with them, my half bro started coming every weekend because most of friends had gone back to living at home so they were living in area my Dad and step mom live in, my half bro has since moved back and transferred to a job in the office. My sister does a Co-Op every second semester and so far (her second round of Co-Ops) all of her Co-Ops have been in the Toronto area so every other semester she is home. My Dad and Step Mom are no longer living in the house they had when we were kids, this was their downsize house after my bro moved out and announced he was never coming back and closer to where my half bro and half sis were attending high school. So they have now had to renovate their basement to put in a 4th bedroom because for varying amounts of time each year they have all 3 kids living with them in what was a 3 bedroom house, now 4 bedroom.
