The source said Hoffman was found after a 911 emergency call from a friend of his. The New York City Police Department confirmed to the LA Times that the “Capote” actor was discovered with a hypodermic needle in arm.
Hoffman had completed a detox program for substance abuse, including snorting heroin, in May, according to Variety.
Hoffman won the Academy Award for Best Actor for the 2005 biographical film Capote, and received three Academy Award nominations as Best Supporting Actor.

Maximilian Schell dies aged 83
Austrian actor Maximilian Schell, who won an Oscar for his role in the 1961 film Judgment at Nuremberg, has died at the age of 83.
He died overnight at a clinic in the Austrian city of Innsbruck after "a sudden and serious illness", his agent said.
Schell had been treated for pneumonia earlier this week.
He was one of the most famous German-speaking actors to have gained international renown.
The actor's wife was reportedly at his bedside when he died.
Schell had been in filming in Austria when he fell ill last Saturday.
He was taken to hospital and treated for a lung infection, but discharged on Tuesday.

RIP Philip - what a loss, so young, such an amazing actor.
Absolutely fave movie of mine is him in Capote, for which he won the Oscar.

I liked him as a sleezy reporter in Red Dragon (a smallish role) and the sleezier campaign manager in The Ides of March.

some reports are saying that he recently was on pain medication and there is a very large chance that is the reason for the relapse (there are many medications out which are highly addictive and will give you a similar high then crash when coming off them leading to a slippery slope)
he also went back to rehab back in may as a preemptive fear that he was going to relapse and use again, it reminds me a bit of what happened with Corey Monteith he also went back to rehab just a few months before he died of a relapse
i feel horrid for his family and children it's hard to grieve over a sudden death when it's all over the papers and media (you can't even check your email without being reminded)When life hands you Edward Cullen...throw him back and demand Eric Northman....

He was so great in his Capote role...such a wonderful character actor...what a waste; he had so many, many years ahead of him, so many roles yet to fill. I don't know much about those addictions, thankfully, but when will people realize that crap like that will kill them? It's always fun until someone dies.

What a career she had!
She was 85.
Temple had married Army Air Corps private John Agar, the brother of a classmate at Westlake, her exclusive L.A. girls' school, in 1945. He took up acting and the pair appeared together in two films, Fort Apache and Adventure in Baltimore. She and Agar had a daughter, Susan, in 1948, but she filed for divorce the following year.
She married Black in 1950, and they had two more children, Lori and Charles. That marriage lasted until his death in 2005 at age 86.
