overall i think it was well done.. it was pretty, it was light and airy (if that makes sense) it had a slight magical sense to it with the music and dancing and the whole starry night with the massive projector on the floor there were a few minor hiccups like the one ring not opening, occasionally a few dancers were out of sync one of the roller blader's near the end his lighted outfit didn't light up, but the cauldron lighting was nice.. at first i was a bit iffy since all the olympians that came out to carry it were summer games athletes... then finally.. the last two were winter games athletes (it is the winter games someone who lights it should atleast be a icon of the country OR a winter game athlete)

they very much skated over the Russian history

    Canada's first medal - a bronze

Sage Kotsenburg (USA, center) wins gold, Staale Sandbech (NOR, left) wins silver and Mark McMorris (CAN, right) wins bronze in men's slopestyle finals at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games at Rosa Khutor Extreme Park

Mark hugs his mom right after

    Alas, some dispute about judging

    awesome pic

Belgium's Seppe Smits performs a jump during the men's snowboard slopestyle semi-final competition Feb. 8.

The first breakout star of the 2014 Sochi Olympics wasn't an athlete at all. It was a giant matryoshka doll on the slopestyle course at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park. When the Winter Games began with men's slopestyle qualifying on Thursday, viewers couldn't miss the enormous Russian nesting doll stationed on the course.

Women's hockey CAN against SUI - Hayley just scored her first goal, shorthanded, unassisted.
    Now 3-0 CAN...
    4-0
and 5-0, even after a review
second period over - and they win with that score.

They play Finland Monday, then US later in the week.

I think Ron McLean got paid by the syllable.
And so true, Patty...at least Cherry wasn't there...he will be doing the broadcast of women's hockey if I'm not mistaken.

Granny...I'm fine now...can't have a snickers on my diet....
You are right Lynn NBC did a far better job, now we just have to find someone else to commentate the slope style whoever was commentating was horrific. It was painful to listen to.

THAT was my final straw...the husky! Really? There's a dig on there?! He really must have been paid by the syllable. At least Matt was respectful enough if his audience to let us actually enjoy it, and when he did speak, he added a detail here and there that wasn't as obvious as pointing out a dog!

I thought it was a fine production, and enjoyed it more than I thoughtbI would.
And we have our first medal...Mark McMorris...congratulations to him!

Enjoyed catching up on the full slope style competition on the cbc Sochi app this morning, I was so worried without a tv subscription I was only going to have access to the highlights and not full events. Yay for our first metal!! I really enjoyed quite of few of the runs, lots of talent out there
