Don't insult people, you have no idea why people vote the way they do. Just because your views differ doesn't mean every one is an idiot but you.

With Ontario and Quebec Liberal, Harper can kiss his majority goodbye in 2015 because Quebec will not be voting NDP in masses this time.

I'm glad it turned out the way it did. This was a tough one for me, and I didn't vote in the advance polls like I normally do because I was not decided about who to vote for until a couple of days ago.

Her being gay was never an issue in the election and I think that says a lot for Ontario - it was not about her being a woman, not about her being gay - it was about record and policy

I'll be curious to see what happens to the OPP investigations. If they get squashed, we'll see just how transparent these politicians truly are.

I'll also be curious to see who folks will blame when the next round of layoffs occur in the public sector (guessing the next lot will be more than the 2% cut like a few years back).

Well said, Patty...there is no "average voter"...there simply are VOTERS...each singular person votes according to their own wants, needs, expectations, and experiences....we're all individuals. I may not agree with how our city swung, but the voters have spoken, and that's what makes our province a democracy.

True. The only ones who seemed to make an issue of her gender/sexuality were the folks who didn't want to debate policy issues.

As for record and policy, well, she spent more time defending past actions than actually discussing policy issues (at least during the debate, where she hedged a few Qs).

Wondering whether this will reflect on the Toronto election (will Toronto swing right, in which case we might end up with Rob Ford for another term). Life is certainly interesting around here.

You know Ontario, we like to mix it up and rarely have Toronto/Fed the same as provincial - that could mean another Conservative federal govt (although likely not under Harper since they are already talking leadership)

I am shocked at some of the people who lost seats last night

Beaches - East York: Michael Prue is probably one of the harder working politicians, one who seems to care. Sad day for the NDP losing him
Burlington & Halton: PC to Liberal - nothing overly special about the candidates, Chudleigh has been around forever but to lose a seat that has been PC for over 70 years!
Windsor West: The Liberals lose a cabinet minister (I think only bc it is a Gretsky who won it)

Early numbers are suggesting that voter turnout was around 51% which is much better than the 48% in the previous election.

That is actually from the last election. I think this morning's paper said "The Sequel" or something.

35.5% of the legislature will be women. In the last election, 30 women occupied seats, now 38 women will.

I must admit , that's pretty funny because it is a nightmare for conservatives.

Harper has been dealing with the Liberals here since 2003, he doesn't care - well used to it
and conservatives will get austerity with the Libs when our credit is downgraded within the next few weeks
