Just to point out that David Icke is a known conspiracy theorist who claims the world is run by a cabal of reptilian lizard men ( and that the moon landings were faked) he isn't a trustworthy source.Last edited by gryphon; Mon, Jul 28th, 2014 at 08:33 PM.

Here is an example of what I don't get. You can call yourself a friend of Israel as Heir Harper has and no one says boo but if you dare say Free Palestine you get death threats.
There are 2 sides to every war and I despise both sides in this case. I can't figure out who is more wrong but it reinforces my views on religion that's for sure.

The history of the middle east wrapped up in 3 minutes and why there will never be peace. There is only one "person" to blame for all this.

There are no heroes here, and although you and I may disagree on religious issues, Party, I think we're of the same mind regarding humanitarian issues and the right of people to live with dignity, in safe and healthy conditions. The people residing in Gaza have lived in conditions no better than in a prison camp.
Although I don't condone the methods used by Hamas, I'm not sure I wouldn't do the same if the world turned a blind eye to my living conditions for fear of being labelled anti-Semitic.
The murder of women and children is reprehensible.
I don't have a solution, but I do believe that this was a kettle that was bound to boil over. Unfortunately it may have had to, to bring the conditions of the Palestinian people to light.

I will point out that Hamas encourages the use of Human shields and prevents people from evacuating to safety

Very powerful, Party, and yes, quite correct, both the Old Testament and the Quran promise the land to "their people", but what I'm concerned with now Re the death tolls on both sides: women and children on one side, soldiers on the other.
You may be right: this may never be resolved. But this "war" has just got to stop.

For another person's take on Hamas, lets listen to Mossab Hassan Yousef, son of one of the founders of Hamas

Hamas executes 30 suspected collaborators: report
Suspects reportedly executed without trial for 'acting suspiciously' and having Israel SIM cards
Hamas has executed over 30 alleged collaborators with Israel in the past few days, according to Palestinian media reports.
The reports said that the suspects were caught in the Shejaiya neighborhood in northen Gaza and summarily executed. Among the evidence for their collaboration were telephones with SIM cards from an Israeli cell phone provider.
In the past, Hamas has come under fire from human rights groups for executing suspected collaborators without a trial. Sometimes Gazans are accused of being collaborators based on mere rumor and at other times those who fall out of favor with Hamas are deemed collaborators and executed.
Last week, the Palestinian daily Al-Quds reported that collaborators were spotted firing tracer bullets near homes that Israel wanted to target, among other suspicious activity.http://www.amazon.com/gp/cdp/member-...stRecentReview

Channel 10 reports that 20 Palestinians who participated in an anti-war protest in the Gaza Strip were rounded up by Hamas and summarily executed as alleged Israeli collaborators yesterday.
Reports yesterday indicated that 30 suspected collaborators have been executed by Hamas thus far, but it isn’t clear whether that figure included the 20 anti-war protesters.http://www.amazon.com/gp/cdp/member-...stRecentReview

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
Yes, the Rothschild Zionists. Uh huh. I suppose we shouldn't forget about the Vanderbilt Berbers, ya know the ones advising Obama and Blair et al. Oh, and of course there are the Munk Crusaders, ya know, those hard edged Xtians who control Canada's banks and their pals who ensured Harper got elected. Cause there's no way someone living on minimum wage paying market rent in an expensive city would ever vote for him...oh wait...ah but I'm either too stupid or naive to see the truth.
Sigh.
Anyone a student of history? Wanna take a wild guess as to what the narrative was in the mid '20s & early '30s in Europe? Oh, & we all know who is responsible for all the ills in the world - democracy, Communism, and internationalism. Sigh. Not that things were any better here in Toronto, only Catholics were also added to the list of evil-doers in the world (there was a separate police force to investigate crimes against Catholics up until WWII).
Sorry, I digress. Oh, one last thing, if you want some fun reading, look for books on the founding of Hollywood (the infamous sign was put up for a housing development that went bust before it took off - the sign stayed). There's a reason why folks who were not able to work elsewhere due to discrimination established themselves in Tinseltown.

Personally, I tend to side with Israel. Not because I tend to vote right of centre, nor because I'm too stupid to think for myself. Maybe it's because I'm one of those people that has a weird memory for remembering things - like the images of Palestinian children who were killed who looked an awful lot like those in Syria. Same as the images used in the save the animals type ads (and give us all your money while you're at it), you know the ones which have had the same images since I was a kid back in the dark ages.

More likely, it's because I grew up hearing first-hand accounts of life during WWII. My Mom was quite young during the war, she remembers playing at home within sight of her mother. They lived in a C-shaped one storey complex, kinda like a motel. There was a root cellar in the middle of the C and at the open end was a row of outhouses (each family took turns cleaning them for a week). When the air raid sirens went off, everyone grabbed what they were assigned and went down to the cellar - my Mom was to carry her little doll (made of a handkerchief, a twig and some string) and her stool to sit on. All the neighbours would go down and make the best of it, while the bombs exploded in the world above. While she was still living in the city, before it was safe to ship her to her grandparents' farm on the Austrian border, this was her life. She saw things that most people would be horrified by. & yet, she grew up to be a happy healthy well-adjusted, kind, loving human being. No need for counseling - no such thing back in that day. She also had adventures on the farm, nothing as horrific, actually a lot of encounters with mostly kind soldiers, who shared their rations with the kids in the village (again, not allowed to run outside and play, the soldiers were billeted in her Grandmother's house).
Then there was my Dad's adventures. He was a bit older during the war, maybe 9. All went well for a while, well, if you can handle having bombs go off around you because you live in the centre of the city being targeted. Things took a turn for the worse when the apartment building they were living in was razed to the ground - they spent the next year (my Dad, his older sister and their Mom) living under a bridge. Yes, a bridge. The only time the kids were allowed to be out of sight of their mother was when they went out to gather used coals or sticks to burn to keep warm (similar climate to Toronto with challenging winters). Again, both kids grew up healthy, happy, well-adjusted, kind hearted human beings. And no counseling for them either.
Then there's the whole let's carve up Hungary after the war and give all our allies a present. Britain leading that one (seems to be a pattern with them, doesn't it?). The Hungarians who were forced to become Austrian or Czech didn't fare too badly, what happened to those forced to join Romania was horrific (families were split apart - can't have a foreign language spoken on our land, heaven forbid a couple of ethnic Hungarians get together and have a revolution).
This is why I have a hard time supporting the Palestinians. They have options. They have western influences happy to help the people relocate, if that's what it takes to get rid of a bad regime. Nothing like that was offered to the Eastern Europeans. And I haven't even got to the bad things that happened as a result of the communists.
