So it looks like it's pretty survivable.

Liposarcoma prognosis is reported based on disease subtype. Five-year disease specific survival rates (chances of not dying from cancer-related causes) are as follows: 100% in well-differentiated liposarcoma, 88% in myxoid liposarcoma, and 56% in pleomorphic liposarcoma. Ten-year survival rates are 87% in well-differentiated liposarcoma, 76% in myxoid liposarcoma and 39% in pleomorphic liposarcoma. However, the site of disease has a strong effect on prognosis of well-differentiated and de-differentiated liposarcoma. If these liposarcomas arise within the abdomen, complete eradication of the tumor in the long term is less common. This is probably because it is difficult for the surgeon to completely remove tumors in this location.

Hoping for the best for him as he is dealing with this all.
I hope people realize that first above all he is a father and a husband, and is probably still in shock with all this going on.

It wasn't but a few minutes after I heard the news report on the radio that a commenter said something about Rob being fat and that's why he got that type of cancer (not true).

GAH, the total ignorance and lack of information - let alone no empathy - astounds me and irks me.

I really wish him the best. But I gotta wonder about his decision to keep taking constituent calls from his bedside. SMH. However, get him on chemotherapy a few days and he may change his mind.

    Plus 1 Shwa and gryphon.
I certainly admired the way he kept it very factual, and when he had to say a couple of times " I believe I answered that already " to some silly repeat questions I must say I sensed his eyes rolling!! Well Rob sure has a battle on his hands and it has nothing to do with him running for any political position. Prayers to his family, I hope he beats this in spades!! Also hoping to see him reform into a changed man afterwards. Olivia Chow said some very kind things today regarding his condition, I felt she was being genuine too.

However, Dr. Cohen explained that they had to biopsy the tumor twice: the first time, all they got was dead cells. He thinks that is because the tumour grew so big the blood supply feeding it is no longer sufficient and part of the tumour has died off. He thinks Ford's pain is due to the fact that the tumour is partially dead, necrotic tissue due to insufficient blood supply. Now they will do the two rounds of chemo over 6 weeks and see how much more of the tumour will die off. They will check by CT scan at that point.

I think it's good news that radiation and surgery are not on agenda yet...wouldn't it be great if chemo could take care of this thing. OTOH if the necrotic tumour tissue is already causing him this much pain...oh my, I really hope Ford does not have that rough a time.

So here's hoping things go well. I wonder if the Fords used Warmington to plant a rumour so when the truth came out, people said, hey that does not sound so bad. Honestly, today's news sounds so much better than what I expected.
Yeah the tumor itself probably caused no pain but the necrosis is terribly painful , my dad had that.

Sometimes the severe pain of the necrosis is the 1st indication that something is really wrong. My dad just suffered from what he thought were mild bouts of indigestion then all of a sudden one day bam excruciating pain.

He's a man who obviously has very little regard for his own health with being obese and a substance abuser. Hope he makes a recovery and becomes a solid and positive role model for his kids. Life is short, you have to value the so-called 'little things' in life. Hope he takes that away from going through this ordeal.
