Busy day, hopefully I can do the things I couldn't do yesterday!
Son asked if he could come over tonight - well, of course, any time.
Is it for our company? My cooking?
Well, no, not entirely - it's to watch the Toy Story Christmas special, lol! He doesn't get 'regular' tv - kids these days!
Of course I'll feed him, too!

Happy December, everyone!
Two tortieres made today and as sad as it makes me, I've realized that baking this year isn't something I can do....Just those two pies took everything out of me...it's so hard to "walk" around in the kitchen....so I guess we'll be purchasing cookies of some description ( Costco probably has some premium ones...if you can call bought cookies premium)....otoh, there's always charcuterie platters, dips, spreads...and I only have to make two Quiches ( Lorraine and crab ) to make for Christmas lunch at our DD's....and a couple loaves of bread ( cheese and sundried tomato ), but my bread machine does that for me..
I hope everyone is getting everything done in good order and setting aside time to relax, too!Last edited by Lynn49; Tue, Dec 2nd, 2014 at 04:09 PM.

Thank you, Heartgirl.....Hon, I'm so accustomed to doing all the cooking and baking when the kidlings were young, then as our DD and her hubby were just a couple, I loved to spoil them with it all...then along came our grandson, allergic to all nuts, lol, DD on a diet (a whole size 10, doncha know!), and I guess it's the way of the world now...everyone watching what they're eating, hubby and I as well...but that never stopped me from baking....
Your so right, though...it is a disappointment...I feel as if I'm not doing all those things I used to do, and all because of that stupid fall...grrrr...ah, well, there's always next year...this year, I'll consider it a rest-year and enjoy not being so busy.
Maybe "enjoy" isn't exactly the right word......I'll pull up my frilly big-girl panties and pretend it doesn't matter that I don't feel as productive this year. How's that?

Lynn, I do understand how you feel - several years ago, my back was very hurt mid-month through Christmas and I could barely do anything at all. Without me knowing ahead of time - and our money was very tight then - my husband went to a local family bakery and bought dozens of assorted squares and sweets. At first, I thought he just got one box - but then after a few days he would bring out another, then another when they were needed. I just cried my eyes out - partly from the guilt, but mostly because he realized that me not baking hurt me so much. (and they all were yummy, just like home-baked).
What I have learned to do since then if I want to bake and I'm not mobile, I sit at the counter in the kitchen, and my husband will do the getting of ingredients while I follow the recipe, and do the to- and fro-ing with the oven and baking. We did this once and it worked really, really well - so I will do it again if I need to. However, his back can be terrible as well, especially lately, so I don't know how much I would use him... Hm... I know my son would do this as well, so I'll keep that in mind.
For now, I'll be positive and hope I can do it all myself! I think this will be the first year I'll try make things and freeze them - I've never done that before, I usually just go on a baking spree the week just before Christmas.
Ok - nuff of that! Hope everyone has a great day!

lynn , natalka -
i'd hate not to be able to bake or cook. like most moms, one of the ways i show my love for my family and friends is to FEED them!it would be awful to not be able to make their favourite treats or meals.

Natalka, Lynn, heartgirl you've stated the same issue I have here. I've also shown love for my own family for too many years through cooking/baking, but denying myself that pleasure was necessary due to dietary restrictions. It feels like cooking with one hand tied behind my back at times though, sucks the fun right out of it often. Some of us have also experienced those seriously debilitating mobility/health issues and I am not sure which is worse.....having the mind willing but the body weak or having the body up to snuff and not allowed to indulge!!
