Well the first snow storm of 2015 is headed our way and supposed to start sometime this evening. We are expecting anywhere from 15-30 cm of snow overnight Saturday and then Sunday morning snow is expected to turn into freezing rain and then change to rain for Sunday evening. What a mixed bag! I fear the freezing rain more than snow storm. During the ice storm of 1998, we were evacuated and had to stay in a shelter for a few weeks and then stayed with some acquaintences for the duration until power was restored!

So now snow up to now? Wow...that's fortunate.
I hope this storm moderates before it hits, and no ice damage occurs.
    Stay warm and dry, Hon!

We were without power for 28 days, practically the whole month of January.

Oh, no...freezing rain is what you were concerned about...I hope the power lines hold up.
We're having a good blast of snow here today, really our first major fall; although we do have snow on the ground, it never seemed to come down all at once like this....stupid white crap.

Well, the power went out at 11:05 this morning during the freezing rain! Déjà Vu all over again. I watched Hydro Québec cutting tree branches behind our house and then 10 minutes later the power was restored at 5:55 PM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yay! Our power line is the same grid as the fire department so our section got power back early. Peeps across the street are still without powe. Anyway, thank God for fondu pots! I always keep fondu fuel on hand so we were able to have hot tea and i even made hot turkey sandwiches for dinner in the fondu pot!

In The Shwa it snowed, then freezing rain, then rain, then melt.
But wait, there's more. Got some more snow overnight and it will be windy, icy and cold til Wednesday

4,000 households in Quebec still without power

About 4,000 Quebec households are still without electricity today after power outages caused by freezing rain Sunday. More than 150,000 people lost power in blackouts that primarily hit the Montreal area.
Hydro-Quebec said 4,259 households remained without power as of noon today

Many roads and sidewalks throughout the province remain treacherous, while there is still considerable ice buildup on tree branches and power lines.
The snow and freezing rain also caused at least 100 traffic accidents, including one in which a young woman was killed.

Short answer : no Long answer : NOOOOOOOOOOO!

Yup it sure was a mess. As of last night some people still didnt have any power. You would think Hydro Québec learned their lesson during the ice storm of 1998 but nooooo. Québec sait faire! (quebec knows how)
Actually Québec does know how: how to raise hydro rates wthout giving back good service!!!!!!!!

Lucky to share the grid with emergency services! And how resourceful of you to use a fondue pot! It's not something that immediately comes to mind when listing survival items, lol, but evidently very important!
    Stay well, Hon...
