shooters attack and kill journalists at French satirical newspaper

This was the very first news story I have read so far today. I still struggle to understand the delicate balance between what is printed and released and is supposed to be satire but viewed so very differently by those who take major offense to it, to the point of this slaughter.

11 people, two of them policemen, have been killed and 10 wounded in the shooting massacre at Paris headquarters of satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo. Five of the wounded are in critical condition.

Police so far confirm the death of one journalist, AP reports. Three officers have been wounded.
"About a half an hour ago two black-hooded men entered the building with Kalashnikovs. A few minutes later we heard lots of shots," a witness told local TV station iTele, adding that the men were then seen fleeing the building.
About thirty shots were fired, according to Reuters.
According to some sources, there were three armed men involved in the shooting.
A manhunt is currently underway in Paris, Le Point reported, with the anti-crime brigade (BAC) chasing two armed men in the eleventh district of Paris.
A witness told France Info media outlet that the assailants said “We will avenge the Prophet.”
"It's a massacre. There are dead!" an employee of the newspaper told French media outlet 20minutes, and then the call disconnected.
Charlie Hebdo is a controversial French satirical newspaper that was under attack over the publication of caricatures of Muslim leaders and Prophet Mohammed in 2011.

Their offices have been under protection since they printed a satirical comic of mohammed which we all know you can't do , say anything bad, draw, criticize etc etc etc . blah blah blah BS.

Hubby was watching CNN when I got up ... Just horrific. That still pic of that gunman with his rifle pointed at the police officer on the ground .... There are no words, just horror.
Patty, they have a perverted, convoluted vision of their "religion"... there have been terrorists in and out of all religions throughout the ages. They really don't represent true believers.
So terribly sad.....

Although I condemn this hateful attack, I question anyone who feels it necessary to publish cartoons that are insulting to anyone's religious leader, be it the Christian God, Mohammed, Buddha...Etc...I find all of them offensive.

These french satirists are highly revered over there. It is a way of life to poke the dogs of all religions, political parties etc. This has been going on for centuries.

That's what my hubby and I were saying.....poking fun and insulting someone's god isn't funny! If you know you're hurting a people's religious beliefs, why continue?! My hubby said it's like cartoons of blacks years ago...what was "funny" then (and again, not funny to me!) isn't acceptable today. One day I hope the same will be true of cartooning our gods and/or religious leaders.

The difference is poking fun at blacks is racists, poking fun at an ideology is just an opinion.

Personally I believe it needs to be done more to expose religion for what it is. A man made control mechanism.

I know we are going to disagree greatly on this issue Lynn so don't think that anything I say is directed personally at your beliefs. I question and criticize the ideology, not the followers.
