Could my wishful thinking come true?

If they have a Chapters with Starbucks next to Mega SDM, I'll never leave.

sadly the chapters is closing down...from what i know the store does not want to sign another long term lease and the building wants to secure a company that is willing to sign a long term lease.. so chapters is vacating at shoppers is moving into the building (they will do a complete remodel of the building and reopen it as a shoppers.. though as you can imagine.. 3 floors is ALOT of space even for a shoppers to fill!)

Ofcourse the store concept is different, but you know what I mean. Even with SDM optimum points et al , they are still way over priced.

I see people buying lots of stuff at full price at SDM , whenever I go there ..& I am like are these guys nuts !
I don't find SDM that overpriced if you are careful what you shop for. I spent $87 there on the weekend, none of the stuff was any more than I would have paid elsewhere and I earned $55 back in points that I wouldn't have got elsewhere.

Like Target, you just have to be selective (only Target would let you PM)

But since it has come up a few times (and not just directed at you), can we refrain from questioning/insulting people's shopping habits - pretty please with some coupons on top

torontogal12, I was just thinking that the other day. I don't get why Target didn't make it here except for the quick openings which might have caused their inventory issues. Or maybe just inventory issues?

Target was really nicely built for customers. They had wipes for your cart, drink holders, carts that ran soooo smoothly, no annoying coins to use one, nice bathrooms, buttons for help located throughout the store, price scanners that were functioning, customer service that wanted to help, employees that would check the shelf for you if you called in, and I've never been given a dirty look at checkout for having a few coupons.

At the location I visited yesterday, they had a covered area across from the bus stop if you wanted to wait for a bus in case the loading area was too sunny. They had a crosswalk built right beside the bus terminal, and then another across the parking lot to get into the store. They had bike racks, seating areas, skinny poles to put out your cigarette, and trash bins.

With all I've heard about people expecting the stores to be like Target US, I don't get what the difference is unless it's stock they carry. The US allows price matching with Target coupons with manufacturer coupons. So did Target Canada. The US had crazy clearance deals. So did Target Canada by the number of SCers that got great deals (as long as you were in the right place at the right time). The US had rotating markdowns. So did Target Canada. The US supposedly has low prices. All the things I looked for in Canada, I checked on the US website and they're priced exactly the same. The only difference is that ours is in Canadian dollars and theirs is in US dollars. I don't see the fees for transport worked in.

Am I missing something? Just what did the US have that we didn't have? I've been to Target in the US a few times and I still don't see the difference, except for the stock issues. They were fully stocked and a lot busier.
Could not agree more! I loved target and all of the amazing deals that I got. I actually really liked the way they had their cashes set up too because I never had a huge line up behind me that was glaring at me for using a few coupons.

Yeah I forgot about Chapters struggle...but okay I'll take Starbucks inside a SDM. It's a big store with red logo, maybe I won't notice the difference.

Tim Hortons just laid off a bunch of people at their Oakville ( GTA ) Canadian headquarters.

It was expected after the Burger King & Timmy's merger.

They didn't state the numbers ..but on the news I heard they have 1,400 workers at the Timmy's head office in Oakville & almost half ..700 are going to be laid off ..to streamline the jobs between BK & Tim's.

These are quality & well paid jobs, which will be lost.

I wouldn't mine Timmy's coffee at BK and some BK menu items like Whopper at Tim's

I think they can just have a Starbuck's which sells hot & cold beverages ..and not all the other stuff like cakes, pastries etc..plus no space for sitting down. More like a grab & go place.

They should have space for that. A couple of baristas behind the counter & some of their drinks. Maybe they can throw in some SDM optimum points on them too ..only at the SDM Starbucks locations

They may even continue with the Keurig coffee self serve thing as I saw as RCSS. Of course I prefer Starbucks.

BK are moving their HQ to Oakville and some of those people can/will reapply for those jobs. There is just no need for two IT depts etc, makes business sense to streamline (so they don't end up in a mess like other companies). They were open about job losses from the start, they would keep all franchises but HQ staff were not protected under the merger/acquisition

I haven't seen one of those stores forever, they've been closed here for 2-3 years.
Boathouse is in trouble too, all the stores seem to be like liquidation stores now(and no new stock for almost a year).

I always found Target was expensive - I went a few times when they first came and left empty handed.

It wasn't until a few months ago that I went back and actually found their clearance sections to be "good, not amazing", but it reminds me of Winners where you have to really search to get a great deal.
I've also never price matched their flyer anywhere.

Them leaving doesn't change anything for me. I still leave most of my shopping to Maxi so that I can price match and Walmart for their Fresh Express salads that I can't find anywhere else.
