It's not your house, so much as it's you and your lifestyle Gryphon. Dogs are needy. . .as in they need YOU and your attention a fair amount. Some breeds need more exercise and/or intellectual stimulation than others. SPCA has a code on the dogs they use that they match up with owners and their lifestyles. CHeck it out. It will be helpful to you I'm sure.
And THANK-YOU for rescuing instead of buying a pure-bred (although there are purebred's that need rescue too)

Dogs are a lifestyle, for sure! They are not cheap, either; and they are worth every penny. I wouldn't trade mine for all the tea in China.

I want to adopt a dog in need ..You are right about lifestyle but Im thinking my house might need some repairs so a dog wouldnt get hurt

Please research each breed thoroughly! And once you have found the perfect match besides shelters, check out breed rescue groups. And go to a dog show so you can see the dogs and talk to the owners. The good ones will tell you all the pluses AND minuses of the breed.

GREAT news for our Grandson! His Christmas wish is coming true tomorrow!!

The BIG news is....he's getting his Christmas puppy tomorrow!! Yay!

She's a rescue doggie, mid-size, some lab, our DD met with her already....very "kissy", affectionate, submissive to other dogs when they came around, she's 1-yr old, has already had a litter of which only one survived and was adopted so she's been looking for it, "poor muffin" (as our cat-person DD put it!!)...she had porcupine quills in her chin which have been surgically removed.....and she's fallen for her!! She said the little tyke kept trying to climb up her pant leg to be picked up. Smitten! Mwahahaha!

But here's THE best part: the pup's name is Lexie, but our GS wants to name her Violet. I said to our DD that she'll have to but a violet collar and leash, and she said, "Mom, she's wearing one now!" Meant to be!! And now that our SIL is a SAHD, she'll never be alone!

I can't wait to meet her!!!!

I cannot imangine my life without my two Labberdane sibblings. They are not considered as dogs around here, or any family members they goto.. Everywhere we go they are The Boys, or The kids.. The joy and happiness they bring..

Oh boy Gryphon, that would not be the best in a way of a "first" dog. I'm not trying to be discouraging but as someone who has owned both pitbulls and a Rottie, those are dogs that you might want to have a little doggie experience first.
Theirs lots of larger dog breed mixes that can still be awesome and good guard dogs. Boxer mixes (fairly energetic) German shepherd (tend to bond with one person more than a family) labs (energetic), Golden retriever (super sweet, easy going) standard poodle mixes (very intelligent), Bulldog (low energy, easy going), collie (smart, but needs brushing), Dalmations, (energetic, smart, sometimes tempermental)

I don't know if you like smaller dogs, but a truly adorable one is a Pug. I can see you really enjoying this breed. They're so sweet and funny!
