Up late- nothing much in morning but have 5 days to find my passport as I will need it next Monday. Have planned a trip to Niagara Falls-solo for some contemplation time.

It sure has chilled down, hasn't it? I hope summer hasn't completely abandoned us, although judging by the past few months, I'm wondering if it made any appearance at all.
@avoncallingu, I'm really so happy to hear that you're taking some "alone" time to gather your thoughts, rest, decompress from the past many months. I hope it does you a world of good just to "be"...to be silent, to do only those things that refresh your spirit. God bless, sweet Friend.

I guess I'll start gathering things to bring to camp tomorrow, likely my last weekend there. In September 'the boys' will go and close up our trailers for the winter, winterize stuff or whatever guys do. As for summer, I can't say I enjoyed it much at all. My walking was still no where near normal until of course, I had that slip last week for heaven's sake, the weather was damp and drizzly most of the time. One thing I can count on are the cool, clear autumn days and the frigid winter ones. They never fail to disappoint! Summer was sure over-rated this year.

I concur about the non-summer we've had. Not that I would have been out in the rays much anyways, but just a comfort to have it to warm my bones at least!
Oh I ( sniff, sniff ) just finished watching the very emotional special about wee Elian Gonzalez.
Can hardly believe he will be turning 24 in December!
I remember being so caught up in the drama that unfolded following his rescue from that inner tube near Miami and the heart wrenching decision made to return him to his biological father in Cuba.
That infamous photo of the Federal agent with a rifle and poor Elian in the closet looking horrified.

gah! anyhow, another day here, another chance to cook something!! Made my pureed butternut squash soup early this morning and will make the guys a thick clam chowder with cheese biscuits for later.

@walkonby , I'm sitting here sipping a Laura Secord mint hot chocolate...that's how this "summer" day is going, although it is 20 out there now, we're expecting thunder-boomers this afternoon.

I also pvr'd "Elian" and here we go again, we seem to be on opposite ends of the spectrum on this issue. I remember watching it as it unfolded years ago and just hating the way his Florida family paraded him around like a trained monkey at every photo-op opportunity (waving the US flag outside at 11pm!?) while his Father grieved for the loss of his son! I imagined that happening to our DD....would I not want her, my own Daughter, back with ME??!! He had to be re-united with his biological father...I remember that young cousin (?) of his (I think she thought she found a lost puppy and wanted to keep it!) saying, after his rescue, that they were treated like criminals! DH and I both said at the same time: "You ARE criminals!" ... how's kidnapping and unlawful confinement for starters?!
I know, my Friend, that we're going to disagree on this, which makes it interesting, ...but politics aside, this was a human-rights issue, not a political one. Anyhoodles, jmho....

As for this past summer, if you can call it that, it was a bust for sure. I'm quite ready for fall..you can count on fall, it gives you what you expect! Same as winter, although this one is supposed to be quite harsh and snowy, not the usual combination, but we'll know for sure soon enough.

Are we ready??? Hahahaha!! I'm so into looking at Christmas stuff right now, I can't wait!!
