“Kind of cold in the house (heat has not yet turned on) so an hour ago, I cooked some hot dogs and got water heating for green tea (and lots of honey)”
@Ciel21 I was fascinated by this excerpt from your post yesterday as I thought to myself:if she did cook her hotdogs and used the water for her tea she would need lots of honey, indeed a lot and it would be the ultimate example of frugality. One surely not topped for sometime!

If you want to save $3.00 or more, pass on the KFC flavoured Ruffles chips. For me it will be a one time purchase as the first one or two chips may taste like the KFC of long ago but after a few more and a whiff of the bag your past memories will be shattered. At the risk of ruining one’s appetite I will not go into greater detail of the smell.
Like the Alphagetti of my childhood, don’t try and relieve those past memories rather keep them as memories not to be repeated.

After 13 years with Rogers as our cell provider we are leaving. The cost savings is over $100.00 a month and far more data. The only catch is my current offer is linked to my employment so once I retire I will have to go cell shopping again but by then the kids will be off our plan. In the meantime I will enjoy not paying nearly 300.00 for our plan.
Happy to see Friday on the horizon. It’s another busy weekend. I think it will be November before it slows down.

Uh no, I did not recycle the cooking water for the tea. However, I did add frozen veggies to the cooking water with the hot dogs to expedite having a "meal in one pot" cooking at the same time.

Remember, I was the one who posted a few years ago how gluten-free beer tasted like cold hot dog cooking water...it really tasted that way to my tastebuds. One Beer STore employee understood my reference as he seemed to be one of the staff that actually knew how many beers actually tasted. Saw him this summer at another location!

Had an almost normal sleep overnight-no wandering at the two short early am wakings, so that was appreciated. I had laundered my jacket last night when I reached one sleeve must have touched a dirty surface on my walk home two days ago. This morning, the heat was on for about 2 hours-heard the familiar ticking/warming up sounds of the radiator registers as the furnace kicked in. Usually, the furnace circ switch is shut off during April-Sept and that meant when we had cooler days, I would hear the circ pump sounding like it was checking to turn on the heat. But the switch was left on after winter and I guess we all trust that the furnace pilot light is on. I have to see about getting the vacuum cleaner downstairs (ouch) as there is likely dust that needs removal, as well as spider webs (laundry room needs another once-over as this month seems to be spider web real estate season in the basement).

NOticed the community paper bundle and flyers were on the driveway at 5:45am--out to get happy reading material. Got all the major grocery flyers. Surprise-a GSK Healthy Savings coupon booklet, with Dec 31 expiries. Will see if the coupons are listed over in the Coupons subforum. Random find in the paper-ad stating that the former surplus store is back with new name (The Amazing Home Stores)and new management for first week of October opening. This is about 4 months after the sudden closure of Surplus Xtreme. I was near that store over 2 weeks ago and it still looked like the hasty retreat of the first two months. I am a tad curious if the stock is the same or different and of course if the Mustela baby products are still $5-$8.

Kept the day easy--just not motivated to be outside or do heavy anything. Did cook up the two boxes of Annies pasta shells with white cheddar for lunch-delicious. Kept going back for more. Had a tea tonight prior to going online. I'm trying not to eat much after sundown or only have light snacks but I need to keep up some fluid intake (hard when body feels any draft or chill).

Mail-fistful of admail (tutoring, real estate agent, monthly Residents of ANcaster mag with lots of ads, Marks sale card)

Doing my own "window shopping" online to take the edge off of a trying evening.

Linen Chest's warehouse sale-saw that Stojo water bottles are half price! They collapse into a smaller dimension, just like the coffee cups. https://www.linenchest.com/en_ca/sto...en_ca_products
Stojo Cups are also on sale 50% off: https://www.linenchest.com/en_ca/sto...en_ca_products

There's a Joie water bottle that also collapses: https://www.linenchest.com/en_ca/joi...en_ca_products

Found a cute clear/white polka dot umbrella (not on sale) on Linen Chest's website (perfect for rains and slushy icy rain): https://www.linenchest.com/en_ca/umb...en_ca_products

High-priced pizza oven is now 20% off: https://www.linenchest.com/en_ca/bre...en_ca_products

Suzy Shier-4 prs of fake leather gloves for women are shown! Prestige members get a discounted price. Currently, sale takes 25% off regular prices!
    https://suzyshier.com/collections/gloves

Outerwear is also 25% off. https://suzyshier.com/collections/ne...terwear?page=2

RW&Co-25% off outerwear for men and women and gender neutral items (select)
    https://www.rw-co.com/en/men/new-arrivals/coats-jackets

    https://www.rw-co.com/en/women/clothing/coats-jackets

Penningtons-current sale offer is $20 off tops and bottoms.

Women's Outerwear is not yet on sale but it's worthwhile to see what's new and maybe in stock at your local store?
    https://www.penningtons.com/en/plus-...hing/outerwear

No Gloves category in accessories but Search did find one active zone glove item: https://www.penningtons.com/en/space...17_color=Black
Pity-I loved my last pair of Addition-Elle leather gloves and Pennington's does not seem to carry them...

    Marks.com

Gloves and mittens for women (most not on sale but you never know...) https://www.marks.com/en/women/acces...ns.html?lvp=25
Some winter jackets for women are in this link: https://www.marks.com/en/women/cloth...ets.html?lvp=9

Gloves and mittens for men https://www.marks.com/en/men/accesso...tts.html?lvp=9
Parkas and jackets for men https://www.marks.com/en/men/clothin...-level-4;lvp=5

Since I have posted how hard it is to locate Large size anything in womenswear in stores, I have listed the above links for women and men needing winter garb and certain sizing. If you know the brand you want for sizing, then feel confident with an online order. Many of us still love a try-on in store for fit/comfort/ease of movement (if we can even find the product on the racks). Gloves sold for women in places like Walmart are not meant for size 9 large hands like mine and I rely on leather or fake leather gloves for gripping rails/cane or door handles. Fleece or knit gloves/mitts won't be useful for me.

GIant Tiger does not yet seem to have winter jackets or gloves on their website. I know the recent flyers had puffers but that's not for a good windchill day. I can recommend the men's Mountain Ridge fake leather gloves when they do come out!

One pair of men's gloves is showing on the website: https://www.gianttiger.ca/outerwear/c/276753

Lilo, we use Zoomer Wireless, available in all provinces I think. Just a couple of options for phones and data plans, but they are less expensive and use the big companies' towers so we have excellent reception. We left Rogers to join Zoomer and are very pleased with the low price per month.

    Good Morning and TFIF!!!

Yesterday afternoon I went for a nice walk when I was finished work. It was so nice out! Was nice to come home to dinner ready. (BLSL chicken breast with grilled sweet potatoes, peppers, onions and cauliflower. Have the same for my lunch today and dinner tonight.

I spent $4.08 at No frills yesterday on 3 broccoli crowns and 1 cauliflower and received 4000 PC Pts. I am going to try and pop by there everyday in my travels and stock us up. Both will be great for my healthy meal prep. Will get a few extra to bring to my mom.
Is there such a thing as a good "healthy" broccoli soup? (avoiding cream/cheese etc)

My hallway entrance looks so nice and clean! I am so happy I finally did the deep clean I've been wanting to do for awhile.
Shopping fun this weekend is to get a new mat for the entrance.

    Have a wonderful day everyone!

My pay went up today because my older son aged out of my benefits. So we will move that money to savings because he does not yet have employment with his own coverage so we will pay for his dental for the next year.
I left early today for what may be the last paddle of the season. The toes get a little cold in these cooler days. Or maybe I will be the neoprene boots to get a few more trips.
dinner was burgers, stopped at Cobs on my way home. We are not big on BBQing in winter so I need to use up the burgers and sausage in October.
It’s been a while since we have heard from @Angela273 I hope all is well with her and that she can get home this weekend.

Think @Angela273 is getting a well-deserved day with family for Friday. Hope there is some sleep for her too!

Re: cellphone providers. During the Rogers outage of July, various Twitter users mentioned all the cellular services that run on Rogers' networks. Zoomer Wireless is one of about 4 or 5 cell providers on the Rogers network. Chatr and Fido may be others (will look at Twitter on weekend to verify).

@Shelley17 Do you have the TextNow SIM card in your second SIM slot as a backup option to access wi-fi in case your main cell service is down? I learned about it from a BC Twitter user who was participating in the outage threads in July. Cdn office is in Waterloo ON and US office is in San Francisco. Free (got to endure ads) and pay service options (if you want ad-free usage). Initial cost is 99 cents for the card plus shipping?

Was looking at a credit union's Facebook post about a volunteer event staff participated in and happened to visit the main website to notice a Ukrainian refugee donation drive. Money (online link) as well as select requested household/toys/bedding/clothing item needs. Runs until Oct 8 at many locations. Since my local branch is closed on weekends, I will see what I have at home plus I have started looking at a couple of online sites for deals on new items. Glad for the diversion in the lead-up to Thanksgiving!

Longos is not the only source of the $19.99 Festive Pie! I saw that the Fortino's flyer's Pane Fresco overwrap lists the same pie for $19.99 at locations with a hot foods Pane Fresco section. A good option for anyone wanting a taste of a Thanksgiving meal without all the prep or commitment of a big meal or too many leftovers.

Mom started to talk about making something for Thanksgiving but I am trying to encourage her to think smaller and easier to eat items, not the usual standbys. We talked a night ago about when the holiday is happening. Will see if we can get agreement on what kinds of foods to consider for the holiday. Easy is where its at for me.

The GSK coupons have been posted (text) in the Coupons thread for anyone wanting to know which products are the focus of the offers.

@Ciel21 , that is an excellent idea! I did not know about this, but will definitely look into this now. Thank you for the suggestion!
