If it's any consolation, the same situation seems indicated for the Stoney Creek Rooms+ Spaces store though in Dec 2023 when my bus was in the area, store seemed open. Now when I'm on the website, the Brantford store comes up as my local option! But no buses go to Brantford. Maybe I'll ask my friend one day for a ride out if weather and funds permit.

@Lindaevans You can go to Shoppers or Fortinos (customer service desk) to get your card status changed when the time comes. But if you intend to get the annual senior's bus pass, you have to pay and get it loaded at the HSR GO station on Hunter St.
BTW, you'll be eligible for senior's rates on GO Transit (1/2 of adult fares) trips if you pay with Presto (GO does not take cash on buses).Last edited by Ciel21; Wed, Feb 7th, 2024 at 11:52 AM.

The Bay is reiterating the 15% off Seniors Day discount applies on Tuesdays in store locations only and expires at store closing time. Just click on the More Offers tabs at the centre bottom of the screen today on their website to see the mention.
I had not seen any Senior's Day event for February for Rooms+ Spaces but then there are only 2 store locations, one in Brantford ON and one in West Edmonton AB. Online shopping seems to be the way...
Good time to remind Giant Tiger shoppers that the first Monday of each month is Senior's Day so Monday March 4 is your day. Check with your local store in advance to confirm it is on Monday.Last edited by Ciel21; Fri, Mar 1st, 2024 at 06:13 PM.

Len's Mill site indicates that it offers Senior's Discount (no idea what the "special pricing" means) on the first Monday of the month (just like Giant Tiger!), as long it's not a holiday. In case of a holiday, the discount day takes place on the second Monday of the month.
So yesterday was the April event day. Hmm, site does not show a flyer but a few coupons that expired yesterday. Darn.
There's Wish Local pickup offered at the Chatham/Guelph/North York/Waterloo locations.

The Amazing Home Stores (ONTARIO) has expanded its 15% off Senior Days from Monday through to Wednesday. Must be 55+ to enjoy the offer.

So no more Yellow Light special on Tuesday nights...yay! I shall have to stop by the store to see if the pallets of Amazon clothing returns have dwindled or are at least half sold so I can what's at the bottom of the deep boxes.

you get your present PRESTO card updated to Senior (show proof of being 65 and a Hamilton resident) (can do at Hamilton GO station at the HSR booth, or Shoppers Drug Mart or Fortinos but I find the customer service staff at Fortinos don't seem on top of Presto stuff-for age related card settings, proof of age IS required) and then you can load cash via POS terminal (tell cashier how much you want to load; Senior Presto fare on HSR is $2.25 per single ride while on BT Senior Presto fare is not stated given the free pass available to BT seniors riders who register) to the tune of how many senior Presto fares you want for HSR and Burlington Transit (their senior fares are different). That way you control the amount on the card. You don't need a new card. If you lose your current card, usually the $4 replacement cost is on you but since you are over 65 yr old, you might be able to get the first card free for replacement (seniors who did not have Presto before can get the first card free (Hamilton residents only) but this does not yet apply to your situation as you have a Presto card).
Suggest you get in the habit of loading 2 or 4 fares each time i.e. $10 will cover 4 rides. You need to know how much $ you want to load on the card; the Shoppers and Fortinos staff don't necessarily know the different Presto ride fares (Fortinos staff have access to a binder of info but like I said I have not found the CSR staff at my Fortinos particularly aware of Presto changes unless the odd person is a Presto card user like me or a more senior employee who keeps on top of changes). Also, at Shoppers, I tend to get cashiers who are not really aware of Presto card fare rates and if they get stuck on loading the fares on cards, they find the store manager on duty...I have not seen a Shoppers cashier pull out a binder either for Presto so I often tell the cashier about changes when HSR makes fare changes. Don't forget you can also load your Presto card at your local municipal centre (am not certain if they have restored debit/credit card payments yet so ask before you go out)! The PRESTO receipts from municipal centres are long but full of info! I have discovered if I am somewhat under one fare in value on my registered card, I can still board an HSR bus with that fare and my Presto account goes into overdraft, but it is paid up when I next load my card with enough money to cover the overdraft (I've been in overdraft from 5 cents to about 60 cents in past) plus any fares I request. There was a summer student working last year in Ancaster MUNC centre who did not know what the overdraft bit was about, so I explained it to him and his colleague. You can also decide to set up an automatic payment via credit card or debit for your Presto card, but you have to allow up to 24hours for the load to take effect on your card via your Presto card). Think it is the same if you load funds via the Presto app on your phone onto your card. However, I don't have an auto load feature set on my Presto card, and have always been able to use the card after a cash load in-store. Always get the Presto receipt from any store just in case there are system issues while using transit or a fare inspection.
However, if you do decide to get the monthly or yearly HSR Senior's pass, you'd qualify for a non-refundable senior's transit tax credit (if your card is registered to your name online; you'd be able to print off the ride report from your account) as that is the only Ontario transit tax credit still offered (to my knowledge; the ON adult monthly bus pass income tax credit jumped the shark a few years ago).
For GO Transit-you will qualify for Senior fares aka 1/2 the adult fares! For travel you'd either have to load your PResto card with the appropriate fare at a GO Ticket for your GO travels or purchase a day pass ticket and pay with cash/debit/credit at the machine at GO stations.
Do you know you can get to Square One from McMaster U on a GO bus on the Hwy 407 route?
Since GO no longer takes cash, I don't know what constitutes a backup payment option if one's Presto card does not work (there have been systemwide shutdowns occurring as well as those times when a Presto employee deactivated batches of Presto cards, stranding people from travelling on GO Transit). Keep a debit card/credit card on hand as backup? Or prepare to travel across Burlington Transit, Oakville Transit, Mississauga Transit the slower way to get to Square One for example. The 2h transfers work across systems but once they run out, you'd have to pay the Senior Presto fare on the bus system you are on to get the next 2h transfer on your PResto Card.
Also the ONE FARE program applies with local bus services that connect to GO Transit-something about not paying more than one fare on your trip but it is only available on PRESTO thus you'd need to have sufficient funds loaded on the card to make use of it.
One Fare Transfers (prestocard.ca)
And you'd qualify for the Burlington Transit senior's pass for non-rush hour use on BT during weekdays. You'll have to register at the BT office on John St in downtown Burlington (take the hsr 11-Parkdale bus!) with ID and your card to get the pass loaded onto your Presto card. If you enjoy visiting Burlington to access shopping, festivals and events, or to visit the RBG, then the senior's pass would be a lovely thing to get. I picked up a treat the other day at Shoppers and was surprised it rang in cheaper. She gave me the seniors discount without even asking me-I am not offended in the least. Bring it on.

I have had at least two occasions where I was senior discounted despite no Opt. Card on Thursdays. Even got the discount on newspaper, which was a surprise. My local store used to be cheapest Toronto paper locale but prices now are closer to regular pricing.
Next Monday should be Seniors Day at Giant Tiger and Lens Mill despite Civic Holiday if stores are open. If not open, GT will honour discount on Tuesday and Lens will honour discount on second Monday of August.

First Monday of each month is 10% off Senior's Day at Giant Tiger. Jan. 6 is the next event day.
