I had to argue with a patron today at the theatre that just because a seat is empty 10 minutes before the show starts doesn't mean you can sit there.

Ya the is kinda sad.If they wanted a place to sit they should of paid for one!! I might grab the sit after the lights went down and half an hour went bye but not 10 mins before.

We try to accomodate as much as possible, but when a show is sold out, there's not much we can do.

A while back, we had a big kerfuffle when an older patron who bought standing room tickets insisted she couldn't stand (she swore up & down she had no probs when she bought the tix), so we slipped her into an empty seat. The patron beside her freaked because they had bought tickets for that seat (wanted an empty seat beside them). So no more slipping people into empty seats, no matter what (kinda see the person's POV - if you paid for that seat, you can do with it what you want, standing room patron should have ponied up a little more $).

Not so bad when we have unsold seats, but on sold out nights, it can be trying.
