Lol....Jennynhas absolutely no idea what to do with a ball, Andi. Now soft, squeaky toys? Those are her prized possessions. My therapist showed my hubby how to help me with leg lifts, so that's what we do....without use of that leg at all, I know I wouldn't even be able to get into the tub; getting onto and sliding over on my bath seat is exercise enough, lol. I'm so afraid of slipping off that thing! Chainmaille takes a talent I don't seem to possess, and even making jewelry is getting more difficult with my eyesight and hands not as cooperative as they have been...maybe bird houses are more in my future.... Hope you and your sweet critters are enjoying this lovely weather!
It's weird what clicks for us - I've really gotten hooked on making chainmaille. Go figure. How are the muscles coming along? If you have access to a pool, hydrotherapy is the best thing. No pressure = no pain. Hot tubs work just as well. Or bathtubs - that's what I resorted to - lying in the tub, letting the water help me raise/lower my legs to build up muscle. Of course, you're lucky - Jenny's not tall enough to toss her hard rubber ball at you, er, in the tub with you so you can play (followed by cries of anguish because it was WET!). Try to stay out of trouble.
I'm thinking of you today, Andi, and hoping that.....well...I'm not sure what I'm hoping, really...I lost my Dad years ago on Dec 22nd, so I understand how tough it must be for you right now; let's just say I hope that as the days pass your deep sadness will eventually be replaced by the wonderful memories you have of your Dad. I wish you and your Mom comfort in those memories and peace and love through the new year. I hope your health has been steadily improving...we all miss you here. Come back to us when you can...luv and hugs...Lynn
Hoping you and your critters are having a lovely Canada Day, Andi!!!
Thinking of you today, Andi...
When I was 5, I got a globe for my b-day. My Mom and I would play a game where I would spin the globe, close my eyes and whatever country my finger landed on, I'd have to name the capital city. & every Sunday afternoon (the only time my Dad wasn't working), we would play cards. BlackJack 21 went a long way to teaching me how to do simple addition. I was a very strange child. As for get-togethers, there are a couple of us SCers that meet up regularly at concerts. Some really sweet folks you'd love. I'm sure something could be arranged.
Andi! OMG! THAT'S what he does!! She complained that all he wanted to do was put PUZZLES together! Or do mazes! He loves doing that at home with his Mom! I tell ya...elementary school teachers!! GAH!!! Thank you for your experience with your JK teacher...I'll relay that "puzzle" incident to our DD. She was concerned in the beginning, but now? PHhht!! He does have a tutor two days a week from 3:30-4:30 just to keep his little brain occupied. He loves her and learning from her...he's anxious to read, so he's putting in lots of effort on his phonics right now. You DO know what to say, Sweetie! I wish we had a meet-up in TO some summer...care to arrange??
I'm surprised Jenny doesn't get you to play tag. Lily often throws a toy at me if she thinks I'm on the computer too long (at least she now realizes that I react better to a soft plushie bopping me than a hard rubber ball ). She's even worse when I'm on the phone - she insists on squeaking her toy very loudly, just out of reach. As for your Grandson, just ignore the teacher. My JK teacher sent a note home that she was worried about me being anti-social. I spent all my time sitting in a corner putting jigsaw puzzles together. My parents' friends either didn't have kids or had kids that were grown, so I grew up around adults. I remember being horrified at the prospect of interacting with the juvenile delinquents that were throwing blocks at each other.
Merry Christmas, Andi...hopefully we'll meet again in the NewYear!!
If my brain is still functioning tonight, I'll try and remember my camera. I was fine last night when I first sat down...until I got up to take Lily out. Ouchies. My fav saying is what doesn't kill me makes me stronger. Besides, I'll have plenty of time to rest once I'm 6 ft under (or wherever else I end up once the med students get through carving me up ). When is your next trip to my hometown? I would LOVE to meet up again, hopefully for longer than last time.
Andi!!! I can fully understand the "do it yourself thing"...my favourite saying being: Lead, Follow or Get Out of My Way!...but what an awful LOT of work!! Although...if you enjoy it, and I would, too, it's more fun than work, although still exhausting. I bet everything will look and taste wonderful!! Will there be photos of the 'spread'?
Hey, stranger! All is well, just been burning the candle at both ends this week. My neighbour and I are doing all the work for our condo Xmas party (volunteers tend to complain and put a monkey wrench into the plans). We've made 120 mini quiches, 90 mini beef satays, 40 chicken marsala kebobs, 60 shrimp "lollipops" (they're adorable!) and a bean salad. Tomorrow we finish arranging furniture in our party room, do the main dishes (gourmet mac & cheese, meatballs & pick up smoked salmon). Sunday we both crash.
Well, then you definitely have to make a point of letting me know when you're coming to Toronto. As I said, I'm happy to babysit your young lady so you cam run off & shop til you drop.
No new addition here, the inn is full. Of course, if a doggy needing a home happened our way, well, I never could resist puppy dog eyes. Although it would seem that there should be room. The new condos going up in my neighbourhood have 2 bedroom units that are *smaller* than my (not so) tiny studio!!!
Aw, poor baby. My neighbour doggy has problems with itchies, so now has to eat nothing but kangaroo for the next 3 months to see if it's food related. Good thing she'll eat anything, but I do feel bad for her human, kangaroo is darn expensive! My friend's doggy is allergic to goldenrod, so now wears a T-shirt when out playing in the field, followed by a quick rinse (my suggestion, much better approach than the steroids the vet prescribed & equal results). Have you tried cleaning the parts Jenny's licking with saline solution (basically 1 tbsp salt dissolved in 1 cup warm water)? It's harmless, costs next to nothing, & will keep the skin clean & help it heal.
Thank you, Andi....I'm afraid that ALS isn't something that one can feel too optomistic about...I do believe in miracles, but I'm not hopeful in this case. She's getting very hard to understand, and I think that within the next month or two she'll be using her ipad to speak for her...she's fallen a couple of times and now has my Mother's walker at home...This just goes from bad to worse, to unbearable, Hon...I wish I could be more optomistic... But I'm so happy for the miracles you've been blessed with...I pray they continue for you...and that you remain surrounded by family and friends (and critters!) who love you...Hugs...Lynn
Oh damn. Here`s hoping things turn around for her. Miracles do happen (I think I`m on my 4th or 5th life right now). You`ve got my info, if you ever need someone to talk to (or your bff for that matter), I`m here.
Good morning, Andi! Grown up? Um...nope, and likely never will! She's spoiled...the only way she can sit still is on the sofa with me, ON my lap...until she slithers to the other side of the sofa for a while...then after a while she shuffles back to me so that at least a nose or a paw is touching me...lol! She's just like having a little living doll in the house! It's irresistible when she sits and looks up at us...it's the most mournful look a dog could possibly have...and I think she secretly practices it in the mirror! I hope you're feeling better soon...it's so hilarious that your cat was the only one at Woofstock...lol...you must have received a lot of attention and smiles! Take good care, Sweetheart!
Good to hear from you! I'm still paying the price for hauling the brat around at Woofstock (the doggy fest, he was the only cat apparently ). Is your baby all grown up yet? Not that they ever grow up.
Snicker......really cute site with some neat ideas such as the harness instead of using a collar..I watched youtube the other day, and a gal made a sweater and hat for a little dog out of a striped sock...too cute. Not exactly something that would fit Lily...As for leg warmers...lol...again..just a cheap sock with the foot part cut off would keep legs warm...Oh, this is going to be TOO much fun, Andi!!
& don't forget booties! Jenny has to have matching booties, so she can be stylish. This site made me laugh: http://www.make-and-build-dog-stuff....dog-socks.html Legwarmers for those dogs stuck in the 80s.
Welllllllll...now that you mention it...I have been looking at sites that have stuff for doxies and apparently they love snuggle sacks. They're burrowing dogs, and those sacks look like a big pillow case, but they're made out of really thick manmade pile (like sheep's wool), with a cotton cover on it (ie the lining is that thick pile)...sooooo, Yes. I'll be sewing one for Jenny! Now....to find some sweater patterns to knit...and of course, there are sewing patterns for jackets....yes yes...must look into that, too.....
Is it ever too early to start? I'm assuming you've already started on the 'baby' blanket for when you bring her home?
Thank you, Andi...I knew you'd be happy for me...or anyone adopting a new little fur-baby...you're kind heart fairly leaps off these 'pages'! So...when is it too soon to knit little sweaters for her? Blessings...Lindi ps...Thank you for the rep...I have no idea why I can't rep you back, yet! Gr.
Good day, Andi! Ah, you and those critters! You could write a book!! Or...a picture book at least! Yes, the trip was wonderful...once in a life-time. One...because it's absolutely exhausting for this old gal to walk all over various countries for 4-5hours straight, and two...I really dislike flying for 8-10hours. I tell you, though...it certainly makes one appreciate this country and our liberties and freedom! Just being in Cairo with all those machine guns carried by security and some who didn't look like security at all, was really quite frightening. It was good to be back on the ship after that trip. I hope all's well with you, Hon...I think I'm going to be a Mommy again to a little puppy...I just emailed the owner who posted the litter of doxies to ask if they had a little girl left...fingers crossed!!! Huggles to you, Sweetie!! You are such a beloved addition to the SC Family!...Lynn
Glad I made you smile. How is the jetlag? Those pics were incredible, sounds like you had an amazing time (you deserve it!).
Glad the pic put a smile on your face. I posted another you might like, this time Lily dog at Easter (no, she didn't try to kill me ).
