SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT

Wintry mix of weather beginning Monday evening.

An intensifying low pressure system will approach from the southwest overnight on Monday, bringing a wintry mix of precipitation to Newfoundland. Precipitation will begin as snow in the south Monday evening and spread northward throughout the night. Snow is expected to transition through ice pellets to rain on Tuesday for most of the island.

While it is too soon to forecast precipitation amounts, it appears that snowfall will be highest over elevated terrain in the west.

Most of the island will experience a reprieve from the messy weather on Tuesday night before precipitation and strengthening winds redevelop early on Wednesday.
