OMG today my 16 year old daughter came home from work. She said a new girl started today, the girl asked my daughter what time she thought they would get off work? My daughter said when things slow down (it is a restaurant in NFO), the girl told my daughter that she did not think she would start so soon, therefore without a babysitter she left her 1 year old at home alone. OMG what would you do????

I told my daughter she should have informed a Manager immediately. Unfortunately, she said nothing! What would you do????

OMG that's awful, I'd call the non-emerg police line and see what they would say.

    hhmmmnnn...

I'm just wondering if it was understood wrong. Like did the girl actually say my one year old daughter is at home by herself? Or I dont have a babysitter, as in my bf/dh has work later and I have no sitter, or she only had a temp sitter until a certain time?

Of course if this woman actually did leave the baby alone CAS needs to be phoned but I think I would make darn sure thats what was actually meant. I would of clarified IMMEDIATELY. Just to be sure.

Iono I'd had to ruin someones life over a misunderstanding. Immediate clarification then if the babe was alone with noone then yes called the cops, cas immediately.

And who in the world in their right mind would leave a child alone

Call Niagara CAS! If she thinks its perfectly ok to leave a 1 year old baby at home alone while she goes off to work, then what other parenting skills is she lacking??? CAS would investigate the situation and hopefully give her access to some supports.

Agree. Call the police and alert child services. If she doesn't know how to make such an obvious decision when it comes to the welfare of her child she needs help.

Thanks everyone, my daughter works again tomorrow don't know if this girl will be there but I have asked my daughter to ask her who is watching her baby. I will wait for the answer and then interven if necessary.

Yes, if she says noone at all then your daughter needs to phone you immediately. If she is indeed leaving her baby alone that makes my heart bleed.

I'd like to think that if she's got enough sense to get a job then she's got enough sense to have someone watch her child. Usually the neglectful ones are the drunks/addicts who don't care enough. Maybe the neighbour is watching the child or something cause she didn't have a babysitter? I sure hope it's a misunderstanding.

    Absoltuely report!

Some people one might never suspect of being capable of deviant behavior are exactly the ones who hit the news with all the neighbours being interviewed and saying what a 'nice', 'friendly', 'normal' person he/she was while the bodies are piling up in the basement!

It's up to the authorities to decide what's to be done. Not us.

    Good luck, Hon...

They have let the girl go until she can find a babysitter. Someone reported it yesterday to one of the managers and they told her to go home! Thank god.
