I said my goodbyes to my client's wife today. She understood what I was saying. I asked her if she was ready and she nodded yes. I told her I shall never forget her. I told her that she was a very special person to me. I told her everyone would be okay and that I would continue to take care of her husband. After the family saw me talking to her that way, they did the same thing. Since then, they took her off the feeding tube and she is not on morphine and she's sort of comatose now .I believe it will go fast. it was SO sad though, I cried and cried. After I spoke to her, I turned around and gave my client a big hug and cried with him and then gave the daugther a big hug and cried with her. My husband spoke to her briefly and we left. The tears came to my eyes in my final moments of speaking to her...I never had the chance to say goodbye to my mom. This elderly lady was like a grandmother to me, even though I just knew her for a few short years. I'm glad I was given the chance this time. I am also grateful that I was able to be a part of their family.

When the father was giving her the "Sacrements for the sick" (sacréments des malades), she understood what was going on. She was all bundled up under her blankets. There's a part where the father makes a sign of the cross with holy oil on her forehead and then he does the same in the hand. She knew what was coming next and she removed her left hand from under the blankets so he could do it. MY JAW DROPPED! She knew exactly what was going on.

So, it's been a very sad day. Then I got word this morning, while at the hospital, that a guy I went to school with committed suicide by jumping off one of the bridges in Halifax. I know the family very well and it's extremely sad. It touches home as I recall, just like it was yesterday, when my mom took her life 17 years ago.

So, perhaps tomorrow won't be a better day as I'm sure my little lady may pass on in the next few days but please, surely next week will be better???

Hugsssss everyone! Don't EVER be afraid to tell the people you love that you love them as you NEVER know when it will be the last time you get to speak to them.

Thanks for the rep and the kind words of encouragement as well as thoughts and prayers. It's all very much appreciated.

I will probably live in my own little world in the next few days while I prepare myself for what is about to happen. I will try to gain lots of strength so I can carry on and continue to take care of my client and continue to try and make him smile again.

So sorry Tina for what you are going thru and what is still to come. I am certain she will go in peace with the comfort that you showed her and that the family will be forever grateful for the loving way you treated their dear mother.
Her husband (over dear vet) is going to need you so much in the coming days - for the tender care you give him and for the companionship that he had with his dear wife for so many years.
Take care of yourself and try to remain strong thru this difficult time.

Thanks so much guys...just got caught up in the thread and finished reading all of it. I am sorry you guys are having problems with P & P It doesn't seem fair at all, does it? I cannot allow myself, at this time, to get heavily involved in it, I am sure you can understand why. My energy will be used elsewhere over the next few days. Great letters have been written by you and am sure the sponsors will NOT be happy when they hear what has transpired.
