Eric has done a most unselfish thing here. A gesture of caring, compassion & kindness in the hope of reaching out to other people.
Very well stated & very factually stated.
I hope that this is a nudge for people to find the strength & courage to quit smoking. It may not be an easy thing to do, but you are so very worth it.
Bless you Eric for telling it like it is.

My heart goes out to you and your family.
I read your post to my husband who knows he needs to quit smoking and he was quite touched by your story and is going to try to quit again. Please know that your story has made a difference to my husband....and myself and our two small children.

Thank you for sharing your story, I have unsuccessfully tried to quit smoking several times, but I will keep trying until success. You've been a friend on here to many of us and I'm really sorry and sad this is happening to you and your family. Your message is heard loud and clear, and I will think of you often on my road to becoming smoke free. Thank you so much. *Hugs*

I just read your thread aloud to my dbf. He smokes on and off, and I'm constantly asking him to quit. He listened intently as I read your post. Thank you for sharing this, I hope it does get through to him. God bless you and your family.

I'm guessing that since Eric53's last entry was Feb 2011 we have lost a good friend & sc'r....I just came across this thread tonight & reading it brought tears to my eyes, but I can only imagine how hard it was to write. To put yourself aside & write about something that is hurting but may help others, is a commendable feat in itself.
I hope this thread never expires because as we can see, it resurfaces & helps others periodically! I'm sure this was written with that exact intent in mind.
Never stop trying...Quitting can be done over & over until the very last time!Last edited by lucy16076; Sat, Aug 25th, 2012 at 02:38 AM.

bumping this one.
Hi Eric53! I have been thinking of you all day because it's August 15th and I am officially 2 years smoke free.
I cannot thank you enough for posting this thread. I just wish your family could know that you saved a stranger's life with your courageous words.
peace. XOXO"Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken." Oscar Widle

The original thread was posted more than 2 and 1/2 years ago and he has not ever posted since. Hate to sound pessimistic, but there really is only one conclusion that can be drawn.
I try to bring attention to this thread once a year on Aug 15 because it is personally important to me. If not for this thread, I might not have had the courage to finally quit smoking. Every year I like to thank him for this--even though I already know he will never get to read my words.
At the same time, by bumping this thread, I also hope that perhaps it will reach someone else out there on SC who may be toying with the idea of quitting and hopefully it will empower them to quit too."Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken." Oscar Widle

I agree Ninna, I am happy this thread helped you.It is what Eric wanted. Funny enough I went looking for this thread a couple of months ago and reread it. I didn't bump it but in hindsight should have.
Eric did have quite the sense of humor
