Just wondering if we should be asking for thumbs up when we post a deal/brag?? I see some people do and they get tons of thumbs up why others don't ask and only get a few when there deal/brag is just as good. What do you guys think??

I give a thumbs-up when a post warrants one. Frankly, if someone asks, I'm more prone to not give one....

On all the other messageboards I frequent that have a rep and/or thumbs up/down option, the unwritten netiquette rule is that asking for it is a no-no.. and ends with an avalanche of negative reps handed to the person!

I am more likely to not give one if asked..I do usually give a thumbs up/down to every thread I visit.

Right.. I agree, you can tell they are asking because there is some incentive out there, like here the potential gift cards for posting good deals. They ask to remind people to give them, I give them if I want to.

Personally, I think it's just tacky to ask...

Like the others, when they are asked for, I tend not to give them out.

I make a concerted effort to thumb up as many threads as I can even if I don't post in it

(and yes I thumbed up this thread, lol)

I spend 10 minutes a day (unless I'm awol) going through various posts, even if they don't apply to my situation, & giving them a thumbs up. I figure if someone has taken the time to create a post, they deserve a little recognition.

Of course, I'm so clueless, I had no idea that there were rewards associated with posts getting thumbs up. It is in bad taste, tho, to ask for thumbs up.

I didn't "ask" before and I made it as a top bragger based on my thumbs up. I noticed that some people higher up than I had said something to the effect of "if you like my post, give it a thumbs up!"... not "give my post a thumbs up!" So I followed suit for a couple reasons. One being that some don't know HOW to give a thumbs up--I didn't until I read someone's post about giving thumbs up if you like what you read/see. I also forgot, until I won as a Top Bragger, the why/how of thumbs up. I also didn't realize there was an incentive to the # of thumbs up... SC is awesome! Just keep adding more reasons on my list why I love this place, lol!

I think it's fine so long as it's suggested and why it deserves thumbs up... and leaves the room for the peson to make a choice. Unless, of course, there is a rule/guideline on SC that says it is a no-no. I've seen it several times and not one moderator has said anything.... nor have I seen any debate about it until this post.

It doesn't bother me when people say in the first post "Thanks in advance to all for any reps or thumbs up".

It's rare for me to thumb down a thread, and I do try to remember to thumb up as many threads as I can.

I'm being Mr. Neutral today. It makes no difference to me but it's not something I would do.
