    Good morning, everyone.

Would all those who are doing the snow dance, please redirect your aim? I thought we had a deal about downtown Toronto being a snow-free zone????

I still have 3 out of my 7 mini trees left to decorate. It'll have to wait til later. This morning, I get to watch theatre students bring Munsch stories to life for a group of junior theatre patrons (3-7, I think). It always amazes me how well behaved these patrons are compared to their much much older counterparts.

Once I'm back, I get to make mini quiche. Yummm. We'll see how many are actually saved for the party, or whether we have to make another batch.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Tuesday night, about 8 pm Hubby's mom fell - suspected broken hip. Ambulance took her to East General. Hospital called us; I got there about 9; Hubby got there about 10. Hubby took his Dad home and stayed with him, I stayed with her.

She finally got into an Emerg room at shortly after midnight (had been on a gurney in the Emerg check-in area). About 3 am - still no doctor but I raised enough of a stink that she finally received some medication for pain

FYI - I had asked that she have meds a number of times prior to that and was given the standard, can't give her anything until she's seen by a doctor. Absolutely reasonable, unless someone is asked to lie on a broken bone for 6 hours while being forced to take a backseat to Emerg patients who could still walk, were not having trouble breathing and were not bleeding - however, they received priority because they were in hand-cuffs and accompanied by cops. I realize that Metro's Finest need to get on with it - I sure as heck would rather they be on the street and not cooling their heels in Emerg - but at what point is a cop's time more important than a person needs medical attention? Four lowlifes took precedence over her. Really???

Dr. saw her at 4:30 am and ordered x-rays. She had her xrays at 7 am which confirmed broken hip. Admitted to hospital 8 am.

In anticipation of surgery, blood work was done. Revealed blood too thin (due to thinners). Gave her medicine to counteract and was put on stand-by for surgery. Wednesday afternoon more blood-work to check; too thick now. Hospital did not confirm her prescribed thinner dosage with her family doc which would have helped them to regulate back to a normal state. Instead, opted for trial and error resulting in her missing the opportunity for Wednesday night surgery.

This afternoon at 4, blood was checked and is now OK. She was cleared for surgery. Only problem - they have no idea when that will be.

She is 92 years old and has had a broken hip for over 48 hours with no indication of when her surgery might be. Although on morphine, she can absolutely still feel the pain. She has not had anything to eat or drink since arriving at hospital.

I don't believe this is the "system" - I believe it is this particular hospital - but can't be sure, as I have never been at that hospital before. I can tell you that my mother broke her hip 4 years ago. Granted, it was a slow night at St. Joe's the night she fell - but she was seen by an emerg doctor within 20 minutes of arriving. And, she had her surgery within 9 hours of breaking her hip.

    I'm very upset.
so sorry to hear about your mother-in-law argo.
and hope they schedule her in soon.

like tad my family has had some not great experience with e.g.
my grandfather was sent home from e.g. - with chest pains
and had a massive heart attack the same night which got
him back into e.g. and he died there - granted this
was more than 20 ish years ago.
i was there about 15 years ago for a couple of skin removals,
    and they were terrific.

wishing your mil receives much better care today
if you have some spare time

Metal with highest melting point, it's commonly used in light bulb filaments
I can't profess to understand God's plan. Christ promised the resurrection of the dead. I just thought he had something a little different in mind.
